Ok...........this is a bit more difficult than it might seem! I started out by calling Kennywood. The group sales person was very helpful! She is ready and willing to help us with group reservations to the park, after we figure out the hotel thing. She said there is NO hotel within walking distance to Kennywood, and that the closest one is the Marriott Homestead on the waterfront. However, she added that it is probably the most expensive one in the whole area. Since cost is a factor for many of us, I did not call that one. She suggested that we look at hotels in Monroeville or West Mifflin and I looked at TONS of them! Many of the reviews of them were horrible! There are NO Holiday Inn's or Holiday Inn Express hotels that have pools or breakfasts, etc.
All of the searches brought me right back to the Spring Hill Suites that Pat originally listed! (On Regis Avenue) I called their group sales person and talked to her and she said they only have suites with King sized beds, BUT they also have sofa sleepers in the living room area of all the rooms. That is ok for our family of 5........how about everyone else? The group rate is $103 plus tax. They are emailing me a group contract to review and sign. After I sign that, we have from now until June 23rd to all individually call and reserve our rooms. On June 23rd, the rooms that are not taken by us will be put back out there for Non Uno Masers to reserve. I specifically asked if some people wanted to leave on Sunday the 16th, if they would get the same rate as those of us who will leave on Monday, and she said YES. They do have an indoor pool that is open from 10a - 10pm, free continental breakfast and a fridge/microwave in each room.
The price she quoted is for between 10-15 families.
So, before I sign this contract and "commit" us......what does everyone think??? You can go back to Pat's post and look at the hotel's photos.
ALSO: the person from Kennywood told me that the nearest campground is one hour away!!! I was amazed by that! She said many people ask about that, but there simply is nothing in the area at all.
Another option might be.........for anyone who does not want to spend $103 per night, you could check out other hotel chains in the Monroeville or West Mifflin area, and then join us for a picnic/amusement park day/ etc. And, I don't see a problem with anyone wanting to stay in a less expensive hotel and coming over to the Spring Hill Suites to SWIM.
PLEASE post up soon and let me know what you think!!
