Do your children wear specially fitted shoes, or can you buy from the rack? Eric usually wears regular athletic shoes (K-Mart usually cuz they had wide widths), but I've noticed he is getting blisters on his one heel and top of foot. The other foot is fine, and he seems like they fit him ok...but he is flatfooted, and lately I've notice him "toe walking" at times, so I'm not sure if this is the cause or the result of poor fitting shoes. He did wear orthotics when he was younger for ankle support. I just felt so bad when I saw the blisters....no wonder he takes his shoes off as soon as he gets home!

Dolly, Emily has always worn regular shoes (although now I'm afraid she'll never ever want to wear anything but Crocs!!!), but she has had quite a few pairs of orthotics over the years. I think she wore a soft insert type of orthotic until she was 8 or 9 years old, because she was also very flat footed. The guy who made them for us molded them specifically for her foot, but she liked this style so much better because they were really soft.

I like Stride Rite Toddler Tech shoes. Although Sarah hates any shoes, she seems to tolerate these the best. The only problem is they are so dang expensive! We go to a shoe store that specializes in fitting children's feet. When I went in with her new SMO's they didn't blink an eye since they fit so many kids who wear orthotics. I have heard many moms on this board recommend Payless Smartfit. Chris

Chris wears the inserts with the arch for flat feet and we have always used New Balance sneakers and they have worked out very very well ;D Every now and then I can find a pair that are wide enough and sturdy enough at Payless but most times we go with the New Balance sneakers. Chris too has very wide feet but I have been lucky and found work boots for his horse riding and black dress shoes for when he needs them at Payless that fit very well along with his inserts Dolly for us the clue when Chris starting taking his shoes off the moment he got home was he grew and he just needed a bigger pair CC ~

Ethan can wear virtually anything because he has his mom's skinny feet, LOL!!! We just have to make sure his Sure Steps fit inside. I know the Sure Steps won't correct his problems long-term, but they sure correct his walking gait. He is so much more confident wearing them!

Dolly,
After reading everyone's post, I remembered that Sarah's last two pair of shoes have been New Balance. The lady at the shoe store said they work the best with orthotics since they have a deep foot bed. They also come in wide and extra wide. I don't like them as well as Stride Rite Toddler Tech because they don't wear as well.
