I have been missing for a few weeks. We have moved into our final home for a few years. I am so glad that we have finally settled into a place that Lauren may be able to feel structure and secure.
We went and had a sleep study done Friday evening. It was a disaster. 1st, it was not a place for children. She was not having anything to do with the wires. They didn't start trying to wire her until 11pm and she wasn't part of that party. The guy wasn't very patient with her. I finally was able to get the respiratory bands on her and the pulse ox on her. He said she didnt snore. Intersting that I woke 3 times because I heard her. I forgot to put the head of the bed flat so she never de-saturated. It is very frustrating. Her behavior at school is going down. She is hitting her classmates and taking their food. I don't want to put her on medication.
Say some good words for me.....

OK, breath. Now a few questions. Have you gotten the results of the test yet?? If not make sure you get a physical copy of it for your records. Secondly, who the heck was this tech??? Sounds like a real winner. Having the head of the bed elevated could skew the results, the tech should have noticed this. Even so the study should tell you a lot. When we go for studies we go around Hannah's bed time. It does usually take a long time to get the wires on but they distract her with Disney movies. I have found that some techs have a way with kids and some don't. Unfortunately that probably can't be helped. I guess maybe if you ever have a next time ask specifically with someone who deals with kids.Hang in there and wait for the results, you may find that it tells you a lot about her behavior issues anyway.Once you get them if you have trouble figuring it our let us know....I now a little bit more than I ever wanted to about sleep apnea. My husband and Hannah both have sleep apnea and Hannah has been on CPAP since June-sucessfully I might add.

Renee, Glad to hear you are settled and moved. That has to be a good feeling! But.........sorry about the sleep study frustrations! Any chance you can get another one done at a place that specializes in children? Susan

The study is not read by the tech, it's read by the ENT. I'd wait to find out the results - when Stevie got one, they expedited it to get results in 3 days (then surgery for the obstruction next day), otherwise it can take more than a week even if there is an obstruction! So call the ENT tomorrow, and call again on Wednesday, and on Friday, and ... before you decide you need to have a new study done.

Hi... uggg sounds like the guy didn't have much experience with children that sucks we always get Livs done at childrens hospital and her nurse everytime is named Olivia. You should see the massive amount of chloryl hydrate they have to give her for her nap sleep studies yuck cause shes so big she hasta drink lotz of the nasty stuff. Anyhow when she goes for her overnight we don't get her results for a couple weeks. have u tried to use the small breathe rights at night. They work wonders for Liv (((HUGS))) Steff

Oh, yeah. Definately try the breathe right strips. Many people notice that it can take using them every night for a week or more before they notice any difference, but they do help. Would make an improvement while you are waiting.

Just be aware that breath right strips do not work in every case. Apnea is caused by different things, not always in the nose. Often our kids have "floppy" airways, due to the low muscle tone.

That's what Stevie had: "a floppy projection on her voice box" is what the ENT told me they expected to find. It's what they found and lasered off when she was just 3 months old. Worked like a charm. However, since Lauren is 8 and is just now beginning to have apnea symptoms, it is (in my non-medical personnel-type person's opinion) more likely to be a tonsil/adenoid problem, and the strips are a simple stop-gap answer with no side effects aside from adhesive irritation.
