;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Erin has been in her new school for just a little over a week.....and it is so wonderful !!! She and I are both SO much happier. Her teachers ( & the WHOLE staff) are wonderful !! They have AWESOME attitudes and outlooks. Erin repeats a lot of phrases over and over.....at her old school....I would hear her saying " NO ERIN" "STOP IT" "YOU SIT DOWN" "YOU WALK NOW"......not that there is anything wrong per se.......but......what I hear NOW is......" GOOD JOB ERIN" "GOOD GIRL" "GOOD TRY"....and she is high-fving and clapping to beat the band !! I VERY clearly see the powers of positive re-enforcement !! For the first week....she had quite a few potty accidents, but has been dry the past couple of days.....so hopefully she's back in the swing. Every day her communication books says excellent/good for behaviors and acaemics......where as at the old school.....all I heard was negatives. They've got her completely set up with PECS ( in a week ) and old school insisted she wasn't ready for them Why the heck was I fighting to keep her in public.....oh yeah.....cause they could have and should have done all these simple things and didn't......well.......for HER and I it is wonderful !! I feel like I have a new child at home.....she is engaged with us at home, she is a HAPPY HAPPY child.....and so is mom !

That's FANTASTIC Allisa!!!! How could she NOT be happier now.........everyone loves positive reinforcement! Wonder why her old school folks didn't understand that? I'm so glad she's doing so well! Susan

I'm so glad that the public school's failure is no longer holding Erin back. WTG Allisa for making a great choice. If it makes you feel any better, the public school system is notorious for ignoring the needs of all students - not just those with an IEP. If it weren't so, there would be no "homeschool movement" of disgusted parents educating their own because of these same kinds of failures. I am soooo happy for you and Erin, I could just dance Chris too

im glad the school is working out and that you notice it in her. i know we had consistancy issues at other school(STAFF).once there is consistancy, posative reinforcement, ext... then the child will flourish makes me realize how fragile, and receptive our kids are-a reg. child would keep on learning in that neg. enviorment(to a degree). start that negativity and different teachers ext... and the behaviors start in our kids, kinda like they demand respect and say "wait a minute first things first"

I know when I pulled Chris out of the public school some years back I was like OMG what have I done and the first day he walked in to his new school, he just did SUPER and continues to.
Things happen for reasons and it seems the reason for all this was GREAT things for Erin ;D
