Emily is a preschooler! Dropped her off this morning at her new school. Her teacher, her temp para and her speech therapist were all awaiting her arrival. After hello's with her teacher I watched her make her way down the hall holding the para's hand with her left and the speech therapist with her right and WALKING!!! As I watched her, I had a "Under the Tuscan Sun" moment and realized we reached my goal for her. I got my wish, she walked into preschool! As I walked out the doorway the principal said to me "She's going to do great!" I choked out "I know" and started to sob. Gave a good cry for a couple of minutes. Then I got over it. She took the bus home. The bus freaked her out a little bit, but I think she'll grow to love it. Her communication log said she had "a wonderful first day", "fit right in", "explored her classroom and the halls" and "kept on walking"! I just can't seem to believe that three years are gone. Poof. That was fast! Time flies when you're busy.

;D She is doing great, Christine! It took Sarah an entire school year before she was strong enough to walk the entire length of the hall down to her classroom when she was three. Although she started taking steps at 30 months, it took her forever to gain some endurance. I am sure Emily will LOVE school. Gosh, she has come sooo far!

Christine...I got tears in my eyes too just reading your post...My Em did not have the problems yours did early on and she was a slow and unsteady walker until she was 5. A breeze of wind could knock her over. I remember the first time she "walked a curb"...I wanted to go celebrate ....snd she only took about 3 steps on it before falling off!!!! But school is such a milestone..and the separation for you has to be a big thing. She really has come a long way and I am so happy for her. Keep sharing school tales....and how about telling us how the other two are doing as well..... Jackie

Yeah!!!!!!! So awesome. Justin has yet to walk into preschool......he still rides in. Maybe kindergarten he will walk into school. I am so glad she had fun. I bet she will love the bus rides soon. I still drive Justin because his wheelchair is crap....and I prefer to just go and wheel him in myself. Just easier for us....if only the gas would go down!!!!!!!
Give Emily a huge hug and kiss from us. Everyone is so proud!!!!

I remember Nicki's first day. She couldn't believe she had to go back again. LOL. She thought preschool lasted only 1 day ;D
