Hi everyone!! ;D I haven't been on here in so long you all probably forget who I am...LOL! I don't know if I should re-introduce myself or give an update on Andrew..hee hee.
Let's go with the update. Andrew is now in school 3 days a week for 2 1/2 hours each day. He gave me a hard time at first (teacher holding him in the air trying to get him in the door as he held onto the door for dear life screaming) yeah...that was fun. Now he can't make me leave fast enough! We pull up to the school and he starts saying "bye Mom" and blowing kisses in the air....before we even get out of the car! This kid just makes me laugh.
All in all the school experience has been very good for Andrew. He is now alot more social with other children. We went to a play place with a friend of mine that we haven't seen in awhile and she couldn't get over how Andrew will now go right over and play with other kids. He used to be almost afraid of them and not interact with them at all. So this is a change for the better.
The school therapist's are all wonderful and really seem to like working with Andrew. They always comment on his "great sense of humor"...LOL!
We are waiting for a reply to a letter we wrote to the special Ed department concerning Andrew having an aide. We were verbally told he had an aide at the beginning of the school year. We even talked with the woman and she said she was his aide. She would greet Andrew on the playground everyday, and walk him out of school at the end of the day and give me updates on how Andrew did that particular day. Since then, another little girl has joined the class and this woman spends all her time with this little girl and...as far as I can see....no time with Andrew anymore. So, for anyone going to an IEP anytime soon....no matter how small the town you live in ....get EVERYTHING in writing. It's a lesson we have now learned and we won't make that mistake again.
Other then school, we have also started taking Andrew to a private speech therapist. This therapist and the schools ST keep in close contact with each other and Andrew is trying so much harder to talk. It really seems to be a struggle for him, but he is getting better all the time.
Some of you probably remember Andrew's Wandering. We have found him in the car, by the mailbox and in the middle of the street. We put in deadbolt locks and it only took him 2 days to push a chair over and unlock them But the good news is, he hates the cold weather and snow. So since we have had so much snow and it has been cold, he has not tried to get out in a long time. Yippeee! Now if I can only figure out a way to make it snow in front of the door in july...hmmmm.
Have I bored you all enough yet?? On another note, I am really going to try to get back on here more often. I really miss you guys!
