Happy New Year to you all... I haven't posted in quite a while but try to read posts a couple times a week. All is well here in Ohio as Sarah is finishing up her first semester of 8th grade and still enjoying middle school.I was wondering if any of you have heard of the Yes I Can award. I know it is given out by the Center for Exceptional Children Organization, but that's about all I know. Sarah was nominated back in October by one of her teachers. We just found out that she was selected as one of their winners in the academic catagory. We are so excited as are all of her teachers past and present. I'm just wondering if any of you know about this. Lisa

I was a member of the Council For Exceptional Children (CEC) for years. We had a local chapter that held periodic mtgs. on topics of interest to parents and professionals and hosted events to benefit the children, bowling parties, provision of camp scholarships...
Our chapter participated in the Yes I Can Awards. Children were nominated in different categories based on criteria set by the National CEC. We hosted a local awards night/party where all nominees were recognized, winners named, awards given. This event was open to family, friends, teachers, therapists... The names of the winners at the local level were submitted to National CEC for consideration at that level.
We were thrilled one year to have one of our young men go to the Nationals. He and his family were able to travel out of state to the National CEC Conference for the next level of judging. Chris was about 12/13 at the time. He did solo interpretive dance set to music. It was amazing!
