Just wanted to post up that Kaylee is having surgery tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 10:30. Those who remember me--Kaylee (14/ds) had a perf in her right ear drum repaired last spring--hoping to improve her hearing. It hasn't worked out well for us--her hearing this fall and winter has progressively gotten worse due to fluid behind her eardrum that will not go away. Her hearing tests are coming back really bad and we just need to put another tube in that ear and leave it that way. Anyways--I'd appreciate prayers for her if you can. She's had this 4 or 5 times--but I just hate having my kids go under anesthesia. Other than this issue Kaylee is doing fine in Junior High as an 8th grader. Strong willed child, yes--but we all seem to have adjusted to life with a 14 year old. I'll try to post a recent picture here in a few days--life has just been too busy for me.. cindy

thanks for your concerns..
She went through surgery fine but the outcome wasn't that great. The thing that is causing the hearing loss does not appear to be fluid but rather scar tissue from her previous surgeries. There is quite a lot of scar tissue and that surgeon was realistic about this possibly not working to improve her hearing. The next move is a hearing aid--which is fine with me. I just want her to be able to hear well.
Thanks for your prayers. She was a trooper. Her nurse in recovery was a gramma (but young one!) to a boy with Ds who is 7 and lives in San Francisco. Don't remember his name..but she was a great nurse and it was a nice little blessing.

Cindy, So glad to hear she did ok during the surgery. ( I'm like you, I hate having them go under anesthesia. ) I hope the docs can come up with a workable solution for Kaylee. Your nurse sounds wonderful...and in the right place at the right time. Amazing how things work out. Thanks for the update, and prayers for a speedy, complete recovery.

Hey Cindy I just now read this, glad to hear Kaylee did GREAT with the surgery ;D Bummer bout it maybe not making a difference in her hearing Christopher has a mild hearing loss due to a bone thing and has worn hearing aids. We tried them for bout 2 years and for him they really didn't help, he hated them. Prayers going out that if Kaylee needs them she tolerates them much better then my boy did " Her nurse in recovery was a gramma (but young one!) to a boy with Ds who is 7 and lives in San Francisco. Don't remember his name..but she was a great nurse and it was a nice little blessing. " How very COOL, yes truly sounds like a nice little blessing CC ~

Cindy
So nice to see you here! I know how busy you are....and we all have our ups and downs here, but we're always here for you!
I'm sorry to hear the surgery outcome wasn't what you'd hoped, but happy to hear that there are workable alternatives. Your recovery nurse sounds like a gift, and the best possible kind...an unexpected one when you really could use it.

Thanks for all the love and support uno- It's been 5 full days since surgery and she's still not hearing good out of that ear. It's a bummer. She insisted on using her IPOD today and just told me at bed time that it did hurt that ear to use it. She uses the earphones that go over your heard for her IPOD because the small ones you stick in your ears always fall out because her ears are so tiny.. Anyways--I'm still saying my prayers that the healing goes well and the swelling goes down and she can hear. I'm not opposed to hearing aids -- just want her to hear well and get this figured out because it really affects learning and just everyday enjoyment of life..family..conversations-etc. PLUS--WE have to watch IDOL sooooo LOUD.. cindy
