I had LASIK surgery on Friday and I now have 20/15 vision (which is better than 20/20)!!!
I can see EVERYTHING! Even better than I could with my glasses, which I've been wearing for 24 years (since age 12).
It was a bit expensive ... almost $3,000 ... but I saved up for awhile and then went for it. Best decision I could have made.
Now I can swim with Joy without being visually impaired in the pool, and I can wear protective goggles for racquetball instead of my glasses, and (best of all) no more foggy glasses when I come in out of the cold after walking the dog!
I'm so excited ... had to share!

Congratulations! It sounds wonderful! I've been kicking around the idea too....I'm tired of dealing with contacts, particularly in the winter when they are always dry from the heat being on. I have to admit that I'm a bit squeamish since a friend told me that when he had it done, he could "smell the laser cooking his eyeball"...ack!!! Deane

I can identify with you...I had it done about 12 yrs ago. My vision was very low... -14 in each eye...legally blind and then some. I could no longer wear contact and my glasses were over 1/4th inch thick...uncomfy and unsightly...LOL. I had been told because of my situation I would never be a candidate. But as my vision worsened....my opthamologist decided we needed to do something.
He was already trained in Lasik and RK...so...since they can't'do Lasik on people who are more than -7....he did RK first in each eye. I remember coming home after the first one and without my glasses being able to actually read a sign even though it wasn't terribly clear.
Then a month later he did Lasik on each eye...followed by another round for astigmatism.
For three years I wore NO glasses...first time since I was 7!...as I have aged my eyes have started going back...but I still wear THIN glasses compared with the coke bottles. And now of course my situation is compounded by reading glasses...etc. I am a totally different situation from most who have it To this day my eye surgeon who does these all day long now...has only done one other person with eyes like mine...and he is still pleased with the results.
And YES you are awake when they do it...but everything is a blur and I never felt or smelled....anything...piece of cake. I never even took the pain pills they gave me .
Have fun with your new found freedom...the best part is feeling the wind blow in your face....LOL.

I wish I could have done it but I was told by my eye doctor I was a poor risk for it. I am happy with my thin lenses and smaller frame. They fit better and I am not always having to push my glasses up on my nose. For a while when I was in my twenties and thirties I was known for the big glasses I wore!
My Mother had better vision after her cataracts surgery. All she has to wear is her reading glasses.
