Ok, someone help me please. Lauren is waking everyone up at 1-3 am in the morning. I am a walking zombie. I need some good sleep. She won't keep the CPAP on and the Melatonin isn't helping. What do I do? I seriously need something to work because we are ALL suffering in this house. Her behavior stinks. HELP!!!!

Hello. Does she stay awake then until morning or eventually go back to sleep? Nick is often awake at that time and does NOT go back to sleep so then I get up about 5.30. but this morning he woke at 3.30 and I THINK he has gone back to sleep ;D (not going to check in case I wake him up). I know what you mean about being a walking zombie as I often feel that way myself probably look like a zombie too . Pauline

Wow Renee...........that has to be SO hard, night after night! Does Lauren take any meds during the day? During all the years that Justin took Ritalin and later Concerta, he also took Clonidine at night and slept very well. I'm wondering if something like that would help more than Melatonin (Melatonin is great for helping people FALL asleep, but not necessarily helping them STAY asleep!). If she was sleeping soundly, maybe she'd leave the CPAP on?? Do you think she's waking up at that hour because of her breathing and then can't fall back to sleep? I hope the doc can help you!! Susan

Welcome to my world! Have you tried the "slow release" melatonin? Melatonin is actually to GET to sleep..not really designed to keep you asleep, so I know now they have a timed release version you can get. What do you do when she gets up? Unless Russell is making tons of noise I don't get him. He will get up and lately (like for 3 months now) he's been getting up lots but if he is quiet he will sit and play in his room and then go back to sleep on the floor. Sometimes I get up at like 5am (because I am not a sleeper either) and I will see the light on in his room. I go and see he is asleep, I turn the light off and leave him on the floor. I don't make a big deal unless he is blaring his keyboard. My WHOLE family can sleep through it but I hear it LOL Good luck! I feel for you! I've been dealing with it for many years. Thank goodness I am not a big sleeper so I actually am a bit use to it. It does get old though A.

How long has she been on the CPAP? Just wondering because Leah is on it too and is not sleeping very well. She keeps it on, but is restless all night. The Doc is trying to get the air pressure right. She thinks this is why she is not sleeping. Maybe have the air pressure checked in Laurens? Just a thought! You are not alone! I wonder sometimes how I am even functioning! I think it is by the grace of God! Good luck to you! Tiffany

What is her consequence for not wearing the CPAP? If she's waking up because of a bad apnea event, do you really want her sleeping through it?

She just got her CPAP. She has an auto CPAP that changes with her needs. She wakes up to go to the restroom at times. Other times I think she wakes coughing. I don't mind if she would go back to sleep. She will turn all the lights on and starts yelling for us. She wakes her sister up. We had to lock the babies door because she was getting her out of bed. She also comes and gets in bed with us. It has been going on for years but it is getting worse. I have tried the slow release melatonin.
Sigh..

If she has apnea and is having episodes this will wake her.I would definitley consult with her Dr that is handling her case. Also it does take quite a while to adjust to wearing CPAP so if she is new at this it is very normal. It took a good two months before Hannah would wear hers all night. She also took about four months for the continual thrashing around to settle down. In our case I really had to resort to putting a blow up matress in her room and sleeping with her for a few weeks until she got used to it.Does her machine have any data that the DR or you can download?(smartcard?) I would really take a look at that and see what is going on right before her waking up. That will tell you a lot. Also is the DR following her used to dealing with pediatrics? I find that managing a child in CPAP is a lot harder and requires much more frequent monitoring. In the beginning we saw the DR every two weeks(and I drove 100 miles to get there) we then went to once a month and then finally six months. It is a pain but so worth it to know what is going on.

Another thought, on her sleep study, did she have any significant leg movements(periodic leg movement disorder) that can also casue awakenings. She may need to be medicated for that, also though once succesful with CPAP that usually goes away.

"She won't keep the CPAP on and the Melatonin isn't helping. What do I do?" Renee from one that LOVES their sleep I would say call the Doc right away and see what they suggest. Maybe the CRAP needs to be switched to a different setting, just a thought Sending Sleep for all thoughts your way PRONTO CC ~

I have no suggestions because of the CPAP issue, but I feel your pain!!!
Last Saturday we had a "detox intervention" with Jake - we just had to let him cry it out!!! We had this really, really bad habit of jumping up to comfort him because he cries so dang LOUD that we didn't want him to wake up Ellie. It just got out-of-control crazy and so we had to suffer through one night of him crying out. Which, turns out it really wasn't that bad and he's been sleeping through the night since then. We've been walking zombies for several months as well.
Hope you get some rest soon, I completely understand how that takes a toll on your entire life when you are exhausted every day! For Lauren's sake, too, poor thing.
Jessie

Just wanted to add that Emma is on Clonidine also. This has helped tremendously. I can't get her to wear her CPAP though. Leah
