Thanks! My Eric puts everything in his mouth too... I love plants, but I haven't had any around since he was born. I guess I've gotten use to my "silk flowers"..(not as pretty tho).

I knew about the Calla Lily's... that's about it. I also thought my mom or someone told me over the years that Pointsetta's were poisonous and both our rabbit AND our kitten ate a bit off of them and I panicked thinking they were BOTH going to die.. but they are still with us! LOL

I'm wondering about the appleseeds...seems like that's an easy one to ingest by accident while eating an apple too close to the core, I wonder why we never hear much about that. Maybe it's only poisonous if you eat ALOT? In any case, I've moved alot of my plants to higher ground, away from Jelani! I think all silk flowers and plants are gorgeous, they make the roses these days so realistic...but I'm not a fan of plastic fruit tho ;D A, glad your little pets are still around! edit: omg...mother-in-laws Tongue??? never seen that one, what the heck is it? Must be sharp huh? lolol ;D

This is a baby mom in law plant. They do grow very tall. I hope you can tell what it looks like. Yea, I do have one in my office but there is no way Brook or any other little kid can get to it. Brook has a solid wood gate at the door and it's also on the counter

Apple seeds are poisonous in very large amounts for ruminant animals - that is animals that graze & have a divided stomach - cud chewers: goats, etc. The reason for this is that apple seeds, among other things, are arsenogenic - they produce arsenic within the ruminant's stomach. There's a great deal of chemistry that goes on in a goat's digestive tract, and adding a large quantity of apple seeds will make the whole works turn into an arsenic factory. But our goats eat the occational apple seed or dozen, and haven't even foamed at the mouth for it. I do try to put the cores in the disposer before giving the goats the peels, but I'm not perfect & the goats haven't suffered. As to ficus leaves, if you read the list, you'll see that it's the sap of the ficus that is poisonous. Is there sap in a leaf? How much can a person manage. Keep in mind that most medicines are poisonous in overdose, and most early meds started as poisonous plants. The amount in a plant is negligible, and will probably cause such symptoms as numb tongue, racing heart (slight), maybe headache. That said, better safe than sorry. I have lots of m-i-l tongue in my house & none of my kids have been tempted to chew it - it's very hard to pull off a leaf & it's spiky on the edges - not inviting. Poinsettias being poisonous is an urban legend. You don't find it on any list of poisonous plants, even for goats Remember to check on any list you see - it could be that someone has copied a list of things that are poisonous for goats rather than for people, thinking that it applies to our kids (children) as well as to kids (baaaaa).

I didn't know you had goats Chris. We have goats as well and they eat apples and pears that fall off the tree, along w/ anything else they can get ahold of I really think they have a steel belly LOL!!! They did get out one day, sister left gate open, and demolished my mom's rodie. Man were they sick. All better now. My mom thinks the goats are the children and the rest of us are the kids..... Hehehehehehe Dawn, your so funny. Container only there so it doesn't leak all over when I do decide to water it Notice how dry it is. Bad plant taker care of er' I am

Hey are having goats the new fad these days? I'm jealous well not really, lol...that would be just one more thing to watch out for when Jelani's outside! He'd probably pet them in a way like he was actually SMACKING them... ;D...he means well, but I often have to remind him when he's around babies and little toddlers...I say be gentle Jelani...and yet he STILL grabs them around the neck and tries to squeeze the daylights out of them!!!! And all the while he's saying "hugga-hugga-hugga" ....something I started him saying, lol... ;D googs: You bad plant taker carer-er!Luv that lolol OH for the record..."BAAAA-BAAAA" ;D btw, I've learned alot from this thread!thanks you guys...WOW I didn't give the digestive track of a goat much thought until now... are they pets? how many are there? what other animals do you have? can Jelani come visit?

Yes they are pets. They are supposed to be a 4H project & they do their part by taking dead last place in each competition But Mary, who raises them, does very well in showmanship - got champion last year. One of them is a milk goat & she has milked her through a couple of cycles. She even got a merit award at the state competition for her demo on milking a goat (proud mama - that's me) Other "pets": chickens, ducks & a turkey (Katie raises), rabbits (Betsy raises), and a cat. Yes, if you want to come all the way to Indiana, you are very welcome to come! We are considering getting a "miniature" milk cow. They reportedly eat only a fourth of what a regular-sized cow does & give about 3/4 the milk - good economy, but I'm not sure I'm up for milking 4 teats twice a day (goats only have 2 teats & I'd rather let Mary do it )

All our animals live on the farm at Gramma's house. There's chickens, 2 dogs, like 6 cats now, 6 deer and as of this minute 10 goats but they will be having babies any time. My mom won't take off work to come see me in the hosp having Brook but gosh darn if she doesn't take off TWO days work to care for the goats. Like I said, they are the children and we are just the kids My Mary has a horse, goat, and piggy at her dad's and the 5th or is it 6th hampster. She used to have rats but they mysterously disapeared says her step mom I'm thinking about getting Brook a little puppy but.... just thinking takes along time. Hehehehe
