The other day Emma had an appointment at the hospital to get a new earmold made and have a hearing test done. Usually I place Emma in her stroller or a wagon and take her where we need to go. I decided that it was time to let her walk more on her own. We walked all the way through the hospital holding hands part of the way and her wanting to walk independently the other part of the way. She did great and stayed with me with little probing. She also sat in the booth for her hearing test with the headphones on for her hearing test. That was a big deal because usually she doesn't like to wear the headphones.
I know this doesn't sound like much but Emma usually always runs off from me when we go somewhere. I think sometimes I hold her back a little to make things easier for me. My little girl is growing up and I am very proud of her.
By the way Emma is 6.

That is wonderful! I think it's a very BIG deal! My daughter is 6 also and it was just this time last year when we quit using the stroller.....we had been using it mainly because it was easier for us...easier than carrying her if she got tired of walking, easier to keep her where we wanted her to be, and it gave us a place to put our coats, water bottles, and my purse! Lol! I think we have that same tendency to hold our daughter back and it's something that I am constantly trying to keep in mind and to give her more appropriate freedoms as she is able. Congratulations to Emma on her newfound freedom! Deane

I have to say that I too keep Damara back. She is almost 4 and I still carry her most of the time. (my back is killing me) She is a runner, and it's just so much easier for me. When I do have the time, I will have her walk on her own, she usually ends up running, it turns into a game for her, but I'm real tired after a chase down at the mall. Plus I look like a freak!!! I know I gave my other children much more space, but I just cant seem to let her go! How do I get her to "Get" the word STOP?...she will stop then immediatly will say "GO" and she's off again...
So...I agree with Deane, it is a BIG deal and Big Kuddos to Emma!!!

It IS a big deal! So congrats to you and Emma. As a parent of a "runner/drop-n-flopper" I appreciate what she was able to do.
