Ok... after 10 (well, almost ten LOL) years of a crib.. we are FINALLY adapting a new bed for Russell compliments of the inlaws. Russell is getting a nice snazy cool black beadboard bed set (that Kevin will be adpating with sides because Russell needs his walls!)and I am needing bedding. So, it gets tricky.. he LOOKS 5... LOVES Elmo but he is going to be TEN in about 4 weeks. I feel we "missed" younger boy themes due to just having a crib for so many years... but there is one print I love.. have for years... and I even have a full party supply of it if we ever have a bday for Russell... but I am thinking it might now be "too young"? Is there such a thing with Russell? LOL I know I have this..and another one that looks like it I am thinking about.. So.. can I do the cowboys? I think my DH would say no LOL I do NOT like novelty stuff like sports and super heros.. and well, Elmo is not an option because that's even younger then the cowboys...so...if not the cowboys.... I'll have to stick with stripes and plaids I suppose? A.

Never too old or too young.
I know college students who like pooh bear, carebears and my little kitty.

I think the cowboys are fine. Much more mature than Charlie's Thomas the Tank Engine, but that was really little brother's doing. But would Russell really go for something more musical? Rock n Roll? If dad gives you any static, maybe show him something Goth and ask how he'd like that. Russell with leather, chains, and body piercings? I don't think so. -- Bob

Howdy there partner ;D ok, just keeping up with the theme here....lol, sorry You know what I was thinking after I saw both pics (and I love both ALOT), I really have this crazy idea that you can do cowboys and incorporate maybe another theme tied into it? Are the guys his age or around it have a popular figure that can work well with cowboys??? I guess maybe not...but in any event, I think the stripes are great as my second choice... (maybe even as a neutral palate so to speak) for another theme tied in. I think stripes alone is something I'd use for an older kid. Jelani's idol is Elmo...Elmo is EVERYTHING... What is Russell's? I mean, sorry, I've been so out of the loop and don't really know much about TODAY's Kids interests...I know Russell needs an older theme than Elmo, cowboys are SO cool, but is there a theme that maybe would tie into the stripes? * Otherwise use the cowboys because it's DARN KICKIN' TAN MY HIDE CUTE!!! YEEEEHAW!! ;D ;D

I vote for the cowboy theme! I think it's fun and you could always make it look a bit older by getting a different comforter...maybe a "jean" bedspread or one made of bandanas. I have a cowboy bathroom just because I think they are so cool. I have some rope hanging up to look like a lasso, I have potted cactus (maybe not so good for a kids room), I have some of Katie's old red cowboy boots to decorate the window sill, a few rusty horseshoes hanging and some bandanas. I also found some great "cowboy & Indian" coloringbook covers from the 50's that I found on www.allposters.com Whatever you end up doing, congrats to Russell for moving up to a big-kids bed! Let us know how it turns out! Deane

I think the cowboy idea is so cute. Does he like stuffy animals? You could have a whole barn yard theme w/ lots of animals and the cowboy who takes care of them Russell could be the cowboy and have all his animal friends on the farm

What's wrong with Elmo? I love Elmo. The cowboys are great! Who's going in there anyway? If Russel likes it, go with it.

There is nothing wrong with Elmo... Russell watches the red monster daily and he is my fav.. I have a backpack with him on it that I've had for many years, even before I had kids LOL But, I think Elmo is even more juvenile then this theme here.. and I can't do it.. just can't do an Elmo themed room for my going to be 10 yr old boy. Just can't. That said... Russell would have NO preference on anything... this bedroom picking is all me. LOL He could really care less... it's the Autism A.

A. Eric's room is a cowboy/farm theme. We have a bedspread with John Deere tractors and farm animals, barns, etc. He loves Woody from toy story, so we tied in the cowboy theme. Its really neat, and doesn't look too "young". And I love Deane's idea of changing the bedspread to denim or a bandana look as they grow older. That would work well.
