Would someone please read my horrible story of the ticket I got parking on the school's lot for the Valentine's Day function yesterday? I am venting here and I know I was wrong..., but I need your feedback. Ok here it is...
I arrived to his school before it was time and DROVE around forever looking for a parking place...and I was afraid that Jelani would be eating alone if I couldn't find a darn place to park...so I saw a couple nice cars (nicer than my little bucket) parked in the school grounds inside the gate with lots of room to drive past...BUT they we're parked in the red zone...and I jumped in to take a spot behind them (yep red zone marked on curb) and ventured to the school entrance knowing darn well I may get a freekin ticket. I met with the school office manager and got my 'meal ticket' and pass and she said "you might very well get a ticket"...
(let me mention she's a *itch and never really liked me )... so I said to her (in my out of breath got to get to my son's lunch table voice) "Oh my, I hate to take that chance, I'll be quick"...and off I ran to retrieve my son from his class and go to the lunchroom...
Well we ate and I took his valentines from the classmates in a cute little handmade valentine carrying bag Jelani made, and we said Bye!!! Jelani said bye and waved and than sat down on the pavement halfway back to the car because he wanted to stay at school and not go home! So I scooped him up and as we were about to reach the car, keys in hand with candy falling all around me, a 30 lb wiggly son doing all he could to get out of my arms (as he's tossing his eyeglasses off his face in retalliation to have to leave school) we finally reach the car and who of all people is standing there with a ticket ready to print out? :oYes, the sheriff who rides around in his little golf cart targeting unsuspected parents on school grounds who are parked illegally....I apologized and asked him to not give me the ticket and that I wouldn't do it again,...........he couldn't care less and with a stone cold look on his face he handed me the $60.00 TICKET and I said "Happy Valentine's Day" to the nice officer so as not to ruin any thoughts Jelani might have of our friendly law enforcement....and as I was putting Jelani in his carseat, I saw at that very instant the school principal, a middle aged staunchy woman who I'd never really met but once at his enrollment, and I walked over to her and nicely said...
"oh look I got a ticket", (with a boohoo maybe you can sympathize with me look ) and she boldly came out with a "but you said you'd take that chance!" and glared at me as she then turned around and with leaps and bounds caught up to the friendly officer who was a couple steps away from her....
Now the only way this princpal were to know that I had even muttered those words (she wasn't anywhere around when we arrived to park and enter the school) was because the office manager who for no known reason dislikes me, went and told the principal that I was parked behind other illegal parking parents on school grounds.
OK, thankyou for letting me vent, I feel a little better now, and thankyou if you read this FAR! The whole entire day was overshadowed by this incident (yes my fault)...and all I wanted was to attend my son's function; a half hour lunch and have a happy day...
What if anything, would you do or not do, would you just pay the ticket (obvously) and would you call the principal to ask her what she has against you? Or leave it alone?
Honestly, I felt like taking him out of that school completely, but now I know that's an overreaction. Any insight is appreciated.
