What I mean is, I have done a search, can't find one though, if there are any bulletin boards or chat sites for people who actually have ds, not just for their parents, etc., but for themselves to communicate? When I first posted on here not too long ago, someone posted a reply to me, I believe they sent me a personal message (can't remember), well he was a 47 year old man who has ds. He was a better writer than myself. I couldn't believe he had Ds. I wrote back to him hoping we could communicate but he never wrote me back. He probably has a life! Well now I wonder if I was hallucinating or dreaming because I can't find that message anywhere! Perhaps someone knows who I am talking about, or at least if there are sites where adults with Ds talk, I would love to hear what they have to say. I am just still not ready to meet people in person and get to know their kids, so these bulletin boards are really my lifesaver. Without them and all of you, I would be lost and alone. Ok that was all for now, Thanks, Jessika

There is a woman on this site named Debbie who has DS. She is AMAZING! Very articulate! I know she has been a great example for me! Maybe you could pm her?? I dont know of any sites like the ones that you are describing. Let me know if you find any! Tiffany

Yes...there are sites...but they are kept really private so hackers and even we parents don't interfere. You more or less have to get invited or know someone who is already on one...and they are supposed to be for people with DS only.
And the person who emailed you I am sure must have been Debbie...she lives na few blocks from me and she is a wonder. She has mosaic DS and is probably the most functional person with DS I have ever known. She also speaks well and writes beautifully. And the nice thing about Debbie is you can ask her questions and she will answer the ones she feels comfortable with. I have been after her for years to write a book that deals with what it feels like inside to have a disability...but we have not come up with a mentor for her to do this. It is certainly not my bag...LOL...but I think you might enjoy a chat with her.
If you are ready to seek out a support group I also urge you to get involved with the NDSC and join so you can receive the excellent newsletter and even think about going to the national conference in July in Boston. The NDSC has a terrific new parents packet they will send you.

Also, the Mile High Down Syndrome Society has a great new parent packet My lil' sister wrote them when Brook and I were still in the hosp and this wonderful box of all kinds of things were waiting for us when we got home. I still have most of it in Brook's treasure chest. That was one of the best gifts sissy ever gave me Sorry.... back to Debbie talk Gotta luv her. Your so lucky Jackie to live so close. No fair.
