Hello everyone! I found this group over a year ago, but I didn't come back to officially join until today. I am so excited to get to know all of you!
I have been married for 20 years, and the Lord has blessed us with 8 children--6 bios ages 9-18, and two adopted sons who have DS.
After our last bio son was born, we were more than content with our "perfect family" of 3 boys and 3 girls, and we were blissfully unaware of the exciting direction our lives would take over the next few years.
In the spring of 2002, we both felt very strongly that the Lord was calling us to follow Him down a new and exciting path--to provide a stable, loving, and Godly home to a child through adoption. 18 months later we adopted Jaden from a private agency in CO when he was 13 months old. The day we welcomed Jaden into our hearts and home was one of the happiest days of our lives. He has woven his very lively and loving personality into the fabric of our hearts, and now we can't even imagine how empty our lives would be without him.
A couple of years after we adopted Jaden, we slowly came to realize that the Lord was calling us to open our hearts and home to another child with Down syndrome. Little Luke was born in mid-April '07, and we were able to bring him home when he was 8 weeks old, just in time for Father's Day. What a precious gift he has been to us! Even though he's only 10 months old, he has already filled our lives with laughter and joy!
Over the last month or so, we have been feeling the tug to adopt again, even though Luke's adoption isn't quite ready to be finalized. We recently found out we would have to update our homestudy (because our background clearances recently expired), and we figured as long we were going to have a current homestudy for another year, we might as well wait and see if the Lord opens any doors.
At our ages (Paul just turned 53, and I'll be 49 next month), we would really prefer an older baby or preschooler this time. We also have our heart set on a girl w/DS, because we have 5 boys and 3 girls, and us girls are feeling outnumbered. I also promised my dh that I won't actively search for another child to adopt, because it takes too much time away from our family, plus it makes me CRaZy! LOL Instead, we've sent our profile to a couple of agencies, and we'll tell our adoption friends to be on the lookout for us, but that's all. If the Lord brings another child into our lives we'll be ecstatic, but if not, then we'll be perfectly content with the eight we already have.
Sorry for the novel, I guess that's all for now....looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning from your collective wisdom!
Blessings,
