Jelani has a nasty nasal infection that is 2 days old... I called his Pediatrician to make an appointment and her staff member said they are booked till APRIL! I said well, can I bring him in as a 'walk-in' and just wait? She said No. I said ok, how about putting Jelani on a waiting list? She said she doesn't have a waiting list because they're being audited and are keeping the schedule light...and that April is the soonest appt. !!! I said well, I can't wait that long... but I made an appt. anyway to at least have Jelani on her books... So meanwhile, I called his ENT and she's booked till JUNE.... He's home from school today obviously and I just don't know what to do. I've considered switching Peds but have to wait because there's authorizations w/ specialists coming up. I never had this problem with his first Ped, could just run in anytime...but we have a different insurance now. I'm probably going to end up taking him to the ER just so he can get medical attention before Spring! Any comments, insite, or devine revelation welcome...thanks D~

Wait til April??? That's just CRAZY!! I have never heard of such a thing...I get for a physical needing to wait but for a current health issue??? I would call back and ask to speak to the supervisor...that just doesn't sound right!

See, I am one that waits a bit longer then 2 days to take my children for sinus issues LOL So I don't think I am a good one for advice on this. Unless there are other major things going on, I don't take my kids in. I play the wait and see game first and usally they clear up on their own. And I wouldn't be headed to ER for it either I don't go just because my kids have fevers either, because 95% of the time they are viral for us and they can't do a darn thing... so we just mend at home. I say just hold tight and just maybe do some steamy bathes and saline washes for the nose and see where that takes you. And remember, the color of the snot doesn't always mean infection...I have had plenty of docs tell us that and I agree. Beyond that, if you feel you aren't being taken care of that that doc office, maybe it's time to find a new ped. All peds offices have "rules" and some are more crazy then others so you need to find a place that works for you! Good luck and I hope Jelani feels better soon! A.

Do you have ready-care type facilities in your area? That's what we do on the weekends when we can't get in to see the doctor. Much easier than going into ER at a hospital.
Our peds office usually has a lengthy wait for routine check-ups too, but something like this they allow time for during their daily schedule. I think it's time to find a new peds office.

Heh thanks you all....btw.....I've been calling and calling to his Ped's office to ask to speak to his Doc.... NO ***(bleeping) answer!!!...like a spaceship took the office up into space...no forwarding message center, just RING RING RING>>>> And it's a private Doc office opposed to a medical ctr w/ a team of Docs....so anyway.... A~I agree with you and I'll wait a day or two more before going to an urgent care clinic (got to find it first too) and meanwhile I'll do the baths and such...thanks....and this isn't his first infection, so when it rears its ugly head I'm like a captain in battle, LOL "Man the forts...lock down the trenches...prepare for war!!!" ;D I've already lined up a new PED, but am waiting till March to switch over....wanna get him to specialists appt.s already authorized by his current Ped... Thanks again D~

I would suggest a Urgent Care facility. I would not wait until April if the snot is thick and green. The reason is our children have smaller tubes and sinuses. I have let it go for a few days and Lauren ended up really sick because it was MRSA. Look at his ears. Are they draining too? Fever? I would say if he still has the yuckies in a couple of days go see someone.

I hope Jelani gets well soon. I'm glad to hear that your are going to switch peds.
We don't wait to take Sarah to the doctor because if she gets too sick and won't eat, we aren't able to sneak medicine in her. It is IMPOSSIBLE to give her medicine unless we mix it in her yogurt. Our ped has advised us to bring Sarah in as soon as she starts feeling bad.
We are not strangers at the Urgent Care Center either. Why is it that she always seems to get sick on the weekend?

Hi Dawn, I think that is ridiculous that your ped is booked until April!? All drs offices have the ability to fit someone in ANY day, no matter how "booked up" they are, there are always cancellations, etc. And what a bunch of bulls#$t about the office being audited so they can't fit you in! I think you are 100% right in looking for a new dr! Good luck, I hope Jelani is feeling better soon!!

Not sure where you are in LA but I loved Callum's ped. She's based in Santa Monica and her name is Dr Cara Natterson. They don't take insurance but will bill your insurance, so you pay and then get refunded. I never had a problem getting a same day appointment and they would often sqeeze me in sooner once they knew it was for Callum.
