Jelani is 5 and has new health issues that are showing up now. Back in his infant days he had surgery to repair hernia at 3 mos., nasal septum repair at 10 mos, nasal infections, and sleep apnea now resolved, tonsillectomy/adnoidectomy at 3 yrs old, but after this we were coasting for 2 years and I thought I was this very lucky mom to not have to deal with all the surgeries and crucial health probs I read about other kiddos having....NOT!...my son has developed Alopecia and has lost alot of his hair, but luckily it's growing back slowly. His vision is extremely bad and his glasses are more important than shoes on his feet...he's blind w/o them. His Cardio found a cleft in his valve, but no regurgitation thankfully and said he wants a repeat echo...his Audiologist wants a sedated ABR and eventually he'll have hearing aids...and just yesterday his Ped wants him to go to a urologist and told me he has only 1 testes! But I'm trying to stay calm...it could be worse. I'm taking him today to have an abdominal xray because he isn't going #2 properly, all mushy for weeks and I'm stressed about blockage? He might be allergic to something too because his eyes are very teary every day and on top of that he's not gaining weight! He looks ok but has been 28lbs forever. I just want to hear that I'm not the only one stressed out... I know my situation may be a walk in the park for others, but I'm still trying to cope. Any insight appreciated.

the good thing is your attentive to him(GOOD MOM) i need to get the kids in for check-ups but nothing compared to yours-one day at a time . the tear ducts could be clogged, the boys get that every so often no surgery for us ,on top of everything eles it seems you have to prioratise i hope the docs do what they can and you stay strong the feeling of being overwhelmed is common the stable weight could be nothing, the bm thing could be diet? now i am stressing good luck

Dunno. Could be a lot of things, could be nothing. Just a phase. But how long has it been since Jelani has had thyroid function and celiac panel? It it's been a year, then you should probably get those. Might be a good idea even if it's been less than a year. But I wouldn't worry too much until I had something definite to worry about. So, Jelani doesn't see well without glasses. Charlie doesn't have a lens in his left eye until I put in his contact every morning. Then his mom or I take it out every evening. But he has an IOL (intraocular lens implant) in his right eye. Hope Jelani perks up and feels better soon. -- Bob

I feel for ya...it can be overwhelming at times! I went thru that this past November. I even quit my job so I could "sort" things out with Eric. He was having constant sinus infections, undescended testicle, borderline low thyroid, needed permanent ear tubes, and was being evaluated for autistic spectrum disorder. I was very stressed too. So I scheduled all his doc appoints and took it one thing at a time. Thank heaven we were able to check some things off our list...but we still have the undescended testicle and no ear tubes. I'll get to that next. Take a deep breath, and tackle one thing at a time. I worried so much I must have seemed like a crazy woman! But now, with some of the things behind us, I realize you can't let it get to you..it WILL get better. Good Luck, and let us know how things are going.
p.s. Eric weighed 28 lbs. FOREVER! Then when he turned 6yrs, he went up to 38 lbs. He's 7 1/2 yrs. and still only weighs 40lbs. He gains weight very very slowly. (but he's not the greatest eater either)

Is Jelini taking any kind of poo "regulator" medicine like maybe Miralax? Works great for Brook Brook had clogged tear ducts for over a year. W/ constant squirting of the "goo" and warm wash cloths, it cleared up all on it's own. That is one thing her insurance wouldn't cover and at $2500.00 an eye, holy crap, i'd really be in the poor house Stressed.... isn't the 1/2 of it All three kids have problems this week. Poor Brooker has a very sore owie btwn her two front teeth. Call dentist for appt. First emergency appt, next friday. Whatever!!! Mary girl has a tumor IN her jaw bone. Going to OHSU today for what type of surgery it will require. From a "simple" drilling into her jaw bone and draining the whatever to actual removal of the bone and a bone transplant. I'm soooo freeked out!! The oldest boy got in a car wreak Sat night and totaled his new, way tooo expensive car. He is ok. Nothing broken just banged up a little. Hubby's doc can't regulate his blood presure med's and that p*ss me off. Bp of 101/52 for 3 days. Anyone can know that ain't good. I often think that my life is CRAZY!!! Then I think that there are other's who would think that my life is a day at the beach. Everyone gets stressed, some more than others. I disagreeistant manager told me the other day something I thought I sure hope is true. She says " When your young and your life is sooo wacked out like yours (mine) then when you get old like me (her) your life is just peachie" I hope so Take care girlfriend. Breathe long calming breaths and lots of hugs from Jelani and you will be ok I've needed so many hugs lately, Brook is almost squished Hehehe I'm trying to write asst. manager but for some reason it is spelling what ever that word is and i've changed it three times. See, if it ain't one thing it's another

Stress....... one of the few constants in my life it seems. Some days more than others, some days just gets to me more than others!!! And like you I know that some of the health issues that Alison has had since she was born are not as major as those some of the other kids are facing, it doesn' make it less stressful and overwhelming for me at the time! And I see this post after I sent you the PM, do I feel like a warm steaming pile of doo-doo right now, pointing out some of the Alison stuff that kind of reminded of things you said about Jelani??? You bet I do!!!!
Soooo.... take a deep breath, give yourself a little treat - a nice bubble bath ( ahhhh, Calgon take me away!!!! ), ask someone to hang with your guy while you go for a walk or just hang out by your self so you can get the old batteries recharged!!!

I'm praying for you, girl. I sure do hope to get on this board some day soon & read that the docs have figured out the trouble & that it has a simple solution for you both. Hugs, bubble baths, and chocolate to you!

Boy I'm not sure what's going on now. Thanks for being so supportive. This morning Jelani woke up with a 102 temperature and his sinus junk is back. He's acting like he's ok but I'm not. I have 24 hours to wait for the results to be read from his abdominal x-ray and it seems like a lifetime. You know I'm on pins and needles and hope it's nothing serious. I'll monitor him all day and try to keep his fever down. Funny thing is that today we were going to visit a new church...well now we're not...please send positive thoughts our way!

LOL...I was thinking maybe we could meet if you were coming to L.A., imagine that...and you said Cali so even though it's a huge state I was assuming close to me...Well that's what ya get when you deal with a sleep deprived mom!!! Jelani's fever is down and he's sleeping, so I have time to be on-line.
I notice Alison is very close in age with Jelani. As a matter of fact he would have been closer had he been born on his estimated due date of Feb. 15, '03...instead of Nov. 21, '02!!!
Maybe if you ever DO catch that Red Eye you could venture our way for a meet and greet!!!! I know it's a long shot but you are invited anytime! ;D
