I got so worried today when Jelani's temp (103.5) wouldn't go down after a bath and Motrin...he just wanted to lay down and cry and hold his belly and talk to himself...he was boiling hot and pale and looking really bad. He wouldn't drink and hasn't pooped in a few days. I got really scared so I took him to the hospital and we were there all day... they really only checked his blood and it came back negative with a higher white count. They said he has the flu and is constipated. Now his fever is down and he wants to play instead of sleeping! Tomorrow's x-ray results will be ready and I'll post back. Thanks for all your concern for my little guy.

X-ray came back no abnormal findings, yeah! and yes he has constipation even though he's been going like PBJ w/o J...I'm confused and I'm nursing his flu symptoms right now, his fever is still up there 103-103.5...the ibuprofin isn't working that well to bring his fever down, I give 1.5 tsp every 6 hours. Good thing is that he isn't crying, he ate and he's playing right now even though he has a fever and congestion...isn't it amazing how our kids can have the flu and be happy while it would straight knock us out?!
I feel a lack of confidence in his new doctor, she never calls me back and I've left 2 messages...she leaves it instead to a loud mouthed over confident nurse to call me who talks so loud you can't hear yourself think! I'm no doctor but I know more about my son and his conditions so if you talk really loud I still know more than you!
I have taken the ER doctor's advice and I am giving him mineral oil (1 tsp) a day in juice. The other option was an enema and I said nooo I'll try the oil first. Has anyone had to use mineral oil or something like it for your kid's constipation?

I didn't read the other replies but I am with you. Lauren has had all kinds of issues by the age of 9. She has had 7 sets of ear tubes. We fight with MRSA ear infections and she just got another. Sleep issues and apnea. Thyroid, heart, hearing and sight. You are not alone

Thanks Renee, so nice of you to relate because I sometimes do feel alone, I have nobody to express these concerns with other than emails and doctor's who don't call me back! (my recent post) And then when I hear Jelani giggling watching a cartoon and I'm all worried and stressed, then it 's not so bad, you know? He just lights up every room and even while he's sick! Go figure!?

Glad to hear that the x-ray was clear, I've been worried about you both.
We used to give Callum flax seed oil when he was small and he had constipation and also do baby massage on his tummy to help move things along.
Glad to hear that he's playing happily.

I used to give Eric those Baby Fleets enemas...really small bulb syringe type. They worked well, and its not to uncomfortable. Now he's on Miralax and that does the trick. Glad to hear the x-ray was normal. Hopefully the flu symptoms won't last too much longer. I had it about 2 years ago, and I was "out of it " for 10 days! Yes, are kids are quite amazing...stronger than we think.

I have to keep the babylax enemas around just in case mom forgets the Miralax. I tried the oil but it just clogged her up more. I tried the caro syurp, never again. Can you say bouncing off the walls and it didn't even work. Now that i've tried the Miralax I will ALWAYS recomend it to anyone. It's only like $10 bucks for a small jug. It says give a cap full but watch out, w/ Brook it didn't take long and we had poo all over. We were the carpet shampooer's best customers untill I figured out the right dose for her I'm glad it is nothing more than poo in the x-ray What a releif eigh?!! Hope he gets to feeling like his old self really soon

Lastnite was anything but fun for me or him, his temps were 103.5-104 most the night and I was so nervous because no matter what I did I couldn't bring his fever down... I alternated the tylenol and motrin accordingly and I gave him a tepid bath and even put alcohol swabbed cotton under his armpits...nothing was working. He even was shivering and chatting to himself and I was worried and ready to take him back to the hospital, then suddenly his fever broke to a nice 100. I don't remember sleeping but I did see a beautiful sunrise this morning...boy this flu virus thing hits hard! Thankyou I haven't used the Miralax...the Fleet suppositories stopped working so I'll buy the small (jug???!!!) of Miralax...hmm interesting! I'll be careful with the amount...just had the carpet cleaned 2 weeks ago! Meanwhile, I'll attempt to do laundry today before THAT gets put off another day Thanks for your support.

This is what I ment by jug Dawn. This is the extra large jug. It comes in 2 smaller sizes. Under 10 bucks for the smallest jug. Brook weighs 29 lbs and she gets a teaspoon in every bottle so she stays regular. If she does get backed up, I give her a tablespoon and in about an hour.... well you know I'd try a tablespoon in something to drink and see if that gets things moving. Tasteless stuff just stir real good or shake. Hope it helps
