Ok, I was waiting to post this because I was so shocked/embarrassed etc.
So we go to dinner with a friend. We all make the choice where to go and of course we have to take the kids. So we get to this place and are waiting because there are several of us. Lauren and Faith sit down on the bench behind me and I am talking with our friends and holding the baby. C went to the restroom. All of the sudden the fire alarm goes off. Everyone starts to leave and I turn around for the girls. I didn't see her do it but the fire alarm pull was eye level and there was NO cover on it. I was so embarrassed that we left because I didn't want to go back in. We went to another place to eat. They had a fire alarm at eye level by the bench too but it had a large plastic cover that said "lift to pull" I kept thinking they were going to put us on the news!! "tonight on the evening news...girl with Down Syndrome pulls fire alarm and then takes off. Police are looking for them now"
Anyway I didn't even want to tell you guys but I hoped you would understand and get a kick out of it.

o.k., not to excuse her because obviously she shouldn't have done it....but come on? Put a pull at a child's eye level, color it red, they're GOING to pull it. So... look at the bright side, the employees there probably hadn't had a fire drill in a long time (if ever) and so now will know what to do if there is a fire and they can help customers out. mmmmm...maybe you saved a child's life down the road... :-) (o.k., that may be REALLY rationalizing it, but hey! Can't change it now, right?) If that's the worst thing those employees ever experience, it will be a good year! haha Sheryl

bright red alarm at eye level with no cover? Very tempting, I must say.... maybe now they will spring for a cover.

Yes... I'd agree that a pretty bright red PULL with no cover is always tempting. And it says PULL on it I suppose... how would ANY child know?! LOL

Is this not a board for Down syndrome? Where are the moderators? This has nothing to do with Down syndrome. This belongs on the "Stupid Placement of Fire Alarms" board. LOL!!!!
Loved the visual of the news report!

I understand completely as Ashley who is 5 now has a NEW habit. Everywhere we go she looks for the light switch, I really do TRY to keep an eye on her, BUT it never fails she manages to turn business light, schools, hairdresser, horse feed store, and more lights go out. I just tell people she is trying to be GREEN. SAVE energy.
It is very embarrassing at times but I manage to pull myself together and RUN!

Ok, true confessions time.........
Alison did this at the DOCTORS office last week!!!! And everybody KNEW it was her!!!! My thought at the time was to walk away from her, the office, everyone and everything and never look back...... now, well, they put the alarm right there at eye level, no cover.... what did they expect!!!
Somehow I don't think it's the first or last time a kid has pulled that lovely red lever!

Omg, I bet that fire alarm wasn't the only thing red....my face would have been beet red!!! ;D What kind of establishment taunts the young kids with coverless alarms?! They need to get a clue...oh yeah, they did!!!
It reminds me of my son and I having lunch at hometown buffet....one day I'll share that bit of fun with you!

i was at golden corral and happen to see a couple of four yr olds , one with is hand on the lever, same deal about eye level to them no cover, i yelled at them, you dont know how many over wieght old people eat at golden corral, there would of been mass coronaries! i told an employee that was a stupid place to put a fire alarm, they have to because of the building code ,so someone in a wheel chair can reach it, they did have a cover put over it though
