Okay I'm pathetic!
Long story short, we're moving to KY. JT, the DH, and myself were in KY last week. Our hotel has a program that you can take a book and return it at another hotel.
'Riding the Bus with my sister" was one of the books. So I thought what the heck, better than watching ESPN at night with the "boys". So I read "riding the bus".....good book. Then they had "A perfect Day" a quick easy, okay book. Then I started "the secret life of bees" on the plane and HAD to finish that.....excellant book. The babysitter who was at my house left her book my accident, "lovely bones"....so I just finished that this morning.....a haunting book that's hard to put down.
I went to the library yesterday to see what else Sue Monk Kidd had written, and on Thursday I should be getting "The mermaid Chair". I can't wait! Has anyone read it?!
Guess I'm making up for lost time, 4 books in less than a week. Either that or maybe I'm using my time better than watching my "filler" tv shows?!

I have read it... I also loved "Secret Life", and I was anxious to read this. It is absolutely beautiful writing, but I was a little disappointed in the plot. It is worth reading, just not one of my favorites! You'll have to post when you're done, and give your opinion. Happy Reading!

Haven't read that one yet, so I will check it out. I just finished reading My Friend Leonard.
I had read Lovely Bones a couple of years ago . . . it is one of those that you get hooked right from the first page.

I finished "the Mermaid Chair" the other day. Susan Monk Kidd is a wonderful author, but it just didn't have the same flair as "the secret life of bees". There was so much innocence and thoughtfulness in "bees", and in the "mermaid" it felt like she went more main stream media, and threw in the affair. I don't regret reading it by any means, 'bees' is a lofty book to compare too!

I just finished reading this...haven't read "Bees" yet....but Meremaid Chair was Okay....I, too wasn't thrilled with the affair part....too "Bridges of Madison County" for me....I think I would have liked the whole story to have been more about her mom and the story behind her dad's death....I could have done without the affiar..... But....easy reading and story that kept you wondering....

I too have read The Secret Life of Bees. As a matter of fact, I finished it just a few days ago. I was simply enthralled in the story and could not put the book down. Jackie is the person who told me about it. I should have read it earlier.
I always like Sue Monk Kidd's writings. She used to write in the Guidepost all those years ago when I received it. She is so insightful. I am not sure I want to read the Mermaid Chair. I think I will stay with just this book for now.
I have a neighbor that has been giving me books to read. I don't have to visit the library!
I liked Riding the Bus With My Sister too. I thought the book was better than the movie.

I have about 2 chapters left of this book. I am glad I read it before the movie comes out. My opinion of the book: it is okay, but not having read BEES I have nothing to compare it to. Maybe when I return this book to the library BEES will finally be there!!

Thanks for the heads up Allisa. I will have to watch for it. Sept. sounds so far away, but whoosh here it comes.
Deborah, You'll LOVE BEES. Can you reserve a book at your library?

Dawn, I am sure I can reserve a copy of BEES and will probably have to do just that since it is never there. I did finish The Mermaid Chair today in carpool line.

The Mermaid Chair is suppose to be on tonight. The Lifetime channel is presenting it. I am not sure if I will be watching the movie though. I am a little turned off by what I have seen of the preview. I can't believe that Sue Monk Kidd wrote some of that. Her best work is the Secret Life of Bees.

Kim Basinger was on Ellen Friday. I thought she had said it started running Sunday night and then FOREVER after that. I could be totally wrong. I was cleaning my bathroom and just listening.
I'm curious, I'll tune into one of them. Dawn

Just finished "Bees" and loved it! Next one up is The Mermaid Chair. Although, after reading all of your reviews I don't have my hopes up I'll like it as much as The Secret Life of Bees!
