HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP I have a 5 year old who wants to drop out of Kindergarten.
Emily (non ds) came home today and say she wants to quit Kindy because its BORING! GRRRRRRR They are working on letter, shapes and colors. And of course that is all old hat to my 5 year old who is going on 20. She reads, writes and adds and subtracts and can do simple multiplication. And cannot stand doing stuff she did two years ago in Head Start!. SIghhhh
THe teacher was a real witch when I called her today. I suggested that maybe she give Em some harder worksheets. I realize that we are only two weeks into school and that the teacher is trying to find out where the other kids in her class are at. But she was so.. nasty about me questioning what we can do to challenge Em.
Any suggestions?
I am thinking of talking to the principal and seeing if we can do something like.. 1/2 day Kindy and 1/2 day 1st grade. Or somehow insuring that the Kindy teacher will work on challenging Em. Maybe my my little wiz kid should be moved straight to 1st grade...but she already is in kindy a year early! SIghhhhhhh I am really learning to hate ALL schools and teachers!
Thanks for some input.

Hmmmmmmm Ms. Emily bored already lol. Ok honestly though been there done that with Alyssa although it was much easier because the teacher was with us all the way. Our solution the teacher just gave her worksheets and other work borrowed from the 1st grade teacher also when Alyssa finished her work, the teacher had her help the other kids in class. With that said you have to make the teacher realize that with Emily being bored there may be some behavioral problems that may arise such as excessive talking, fidgeting etc. not to mention stifling the poor girls education. Although when the following grade came around kindy to first same problem but again additional work and helping others. Good luck

Cathy, Have you ever thought of home schooling? You can go at her pace. When Victoria finished 2nd grade she was 1/4 of the way through 4th grade math and when Laura finished kindy she was finished 2nd grade math. Both were on the correct level for Engligh. We do it between breakfast and lunch and we're done for the day. ;D Just a thought. Pat

Cathy~ Does Emily's school have a T1 class? It's a transition class between Kindy and 1st grade. When Jordan started kindergarten, the kindy classes were very very full. So the principal pulled out some of the kids who were able and moved them to a "transition class".....not quite 1st grade, but a bit more challenging than kindergarten.
