Ok...got ourselves all registered and plane reservations made. Now we need some help on what to do with our extra time in Anaheim. I haven't been there in some years and hear there is now a new park connected to Disneyland. Is it worth buying the expanded ticket to go see? Since I am footing the bill for Emily's Marnie's and my ticket we will probably opt for the one day experience.
I get in Wed afternoon with Emily...Marnie arrives very late that nite from DC. We have Thursday and most of Friday before the conf begins.
Anyone with any recommendations for things to do and places to eat let me know...and also ...who else from here is going.
We have to stay across the street from the conf at the Embassy which really fits our situation of three beds better..............

Jackie~ I'm assuming the new park you're talking about would be Disney's California Adventure? I HIGHLY recommend it!!! I've been there 3 times.....and have loved it more each time. However, my kids thought it wasn't quite "thrilling" enough. (thus the reason their mama loved it so much???) There are some GREAT shows there, that you would enjoy. When we were there, they were doing a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" show every few hours. The audience got to answer the questions and the top scorers were able to go down to the "hot seat" and actually play for prizes. They also have a wonderful live performance of a musical such as "Aladdin", and I could see it over and over!! Most of the rides are more laid back ("Soaring Over California" is the BEST!!! It's one where you sit in a seat and "watch" a movie and feels like you are literally flying over parts of California.......with the associated SMELLS and TEMPS, etc. LOTS of fun!!!) It is DEFINITELY worth going to, and the food is great there too! There is a really good Mexican place that is connected with a tortilla factory and a place that makes a homemade bread bowl with various soups inside, etc. You might check online because we have found good deals like "buy one day, get another day free"........and it can be used at the opposite park. I wish I was going with you!!!

Jackie... under one of your original posts for the conference in the regular DS forum, I responded back and gave you a great link to Anahiem... I don't know if you ever saw it. I'd scroll back and take a look at that.... it might be lots of help.
Coming from one that lived there, I personally would rather do Disney then the Calif Disney part.. but that is just me.

Oh... and if you've never eating at a Rain Forest Cafe... that is at the Disney part off of the Hotel area that you can walk around and do... the shops and restaurants there... that is a fun area to walk around, themed like but doesn't cost to walk.. and the restaurant is there.... FUN place to eat and I liked the food!

Thanks...I DID look up Anaheim....and frankly I am more interested in something called The Block at Orange...a large mall? than I am Disneyland...LOL...guess thats my age for ya.....and frankly I think Em would really like going back to Disneyland but is just excited about the conference and seeing some old pals and her sister Marnie.
So at the moment think ...get in Wed..just do dinner......do Disney something or other (remember I am buying tickets for 3 so 56.00 vs 72.00 makes a difference)on Thursday....and the mall or something else fun for half the day on Friday...then conference in the afternoon.

FYI... The Block at Orange and the shopping area I am talking about, outside of Disney by the Calif Disney and Hotel part are kinda similiar. It's a themed open shopping mall.. they both are like that. They ARE both fun... but I think if you think The Block looks cool, you will like the Disney one also. came back to say the name of the shopping area eluded me (tired from our trip) at first... it's called Downtown Disney and it mirrors the Downtown Disney in Florida. Downtown Disney is similiar to The Block in the sense that it's a "themed" type of cool shopping experience. A.

Downtown Disney is tons of fun..........several great places to eat and lots of fun shops. We've done it after each trip to one of the Disney parks. Honestly, if I had to do just one park, I think I'd go to CA Adventure because it's just so different from the typical Disney parks. I do think it's smaller than Disneyland though.....so maybe you wouldn't think you got your "money's worth". If you were taking your little grandkids, I'd say definitely go to Disneyland. The fact that it's a bit smaller makes CA Adventure more DOable to me for those of us who don't walk miles and miles as easily as we once did!
IF you end up at CA Adventure, you CAN'T miss the big show at the Hyperion Theatre (I have NO idea if I spelled that right!) or the "Bugs Life" 3D show....really cute!
ENJOY the conference and whatever you decide to do!!
