So it ended up here! LOL! ;D
Andrew's OT was here last week while Marissa was doing her homework and noticed that she holds her pencil differently. As she looked closer she said Marissa has low tone in her hand. She also noticed she has low tone in her arms as well. Not a big deal.
So...we are driving home from seeing the horses yesterday and Marissa asked me how riding horses will help Andrew. So I explain alittle about trunk control, balance, muscles etc. Here is the rest of the conversation:
M: "So it will help with his low tone" Me: "Yes I hope so" M: " Well do you think it will help me with MY down syndrome?" Me: "Honey, you don't have DS" M: "I know I just have A LITTLE DS" Me: (trying hard not to laugh) No honey you don't have DS at all, just some low tone that's all. M: "Hmmmm" Me: "hmmm what sweetie?" (thinking maybe she needs more info) M: "Yeah...my teacher said I didn't have DS too but I told her I did".
LOL!!!! I think she went and told her whole class she has DS!!!! LOL!

How funny!!!
I remember hearing a young adult woman with Ds speak at a Ds conference a few years ago. She was SO cute. She said during her speech that she remembered that SOMEONE in her family had Ds, but she always thought it was her BROTHER until she got much older and someone told her it was her!

I loved that !! Reminded me of a couple of years ago.....Connor had a friend over and I heard them talking about Erin and he was telling his friend that Erin had DS.....the friend asked Connor if he had Ds, too and Connor replied "I don't think so, maybe I did when I was little but it's gone now" LOL !! He was in kindergarten at the time....right after Erin was born....still trying to "get it"

That is very funny! ;D
I was talking with a mom at our support group last week and she was saying that her older son (w/out Ds), used to think that everyone with ANY type of disability had Ds - didn't matter what the problem was, everyone was diagnosed with Ds!!

Haley AND her first cousin Alex have down syndrome. Haley's bestest friend Sophia and Haley were talking about Alex and Haley mentioned that he is "just like her" and "has down syndrome just like me" Sophia (6) asks Haley (9) Hey what is down syndrome anyway. Haley "I don't know, I just know I have it!"
