Just finished this short little read by Mary Haekenson Perry. Brian bought this at the conference - she had a table in the exhibit hall.
She tells the story of her brother Jim's life and how their family lived in Alaska. He was born in the '40's and his parents were told that common thing - institutionalize him and forget about him. They didn't and these parents deserve a medal of honor, I tell ya. Right up until the end when they were in their 80's and Jim in his 50's, they cared for him.
The thing that struck both Brian and I about their story is how much this man accomplished in his life - simply because his parents had expectations of him. They knew his limitations, but they didn't let that stop them from making him do the same things as the other kids (he was the oldest of 7). It's a great read and I highly recommend it!

P.S. You'll have to read the book to understand the title - it's a very cute story behind it.

Was she the gal off to the left in the corner right when you walked into the exhibit hall?

off to the left in the corner right . . . I'm trying to get a mental image of where that is!!! Actually, I'm not sure where she was, I didn't see her booth and Brian was walking ahead of me. By the time I caught up with him he had already bought it.
