You guys all need to come out to my neck of the woods ( but wait til it's warm again, I've got blizzard conditions raging outside my window right now!) and visit the Toy Town Museum in East Aurora, home of Fisher Price!!!!! All the classic FP toys are displayed plus lots of other manufacturors. I'll have to see if I can find the pics from various Toy Town Festival Parades but FP has giant sized version of some of the good old pull-toys - the little puppy w/ the floppy ears, Daisy the Cow etc. And all of the fire hydrants in the village of East Aurora are painted like Little People characters!
Hmmmm...... toys I played with that aren't around now...... Dancerina Ballerina
GI Joe ( when he was a real cut up guy - same size as Barbie and Ken ) and his helicopter, Jeep and some kind of little cannon that was on a trailer that hitched to the jeep
Silly Putty ( I know it's still out there but none of my kids have ever had any interest in it) on a Sunday morning with the newspaper comics
Erector Sets
Barbie's, Barbie's, and more Barbie's ( although I will strangle anyone who dares call me that name!!!!) My mom used to make us outfits and a matching outfit for our Barbie dolls.
Clackers - I'd completely forgotten about those til Jackie posted them...... oh the bruises I used to have on my arms from those hard balls...... they'd never be able to sell those now what with all the safety and liabilty issues involved!!!!
those ping-pong paddle things w/ the rubber ball attached by an elastic - never did master the foolish thing but had lots of fun trying!!!!!!!

Barb, I'm glad you mentioned the 'ping pong' paddle thingy........that used to be one of my very favorite toys! It was something like 10 cents at Ben Franklin (you know, the "five and dime" store......good memories there!). I would buy one and play with it for just a short time and the rubber band thingy would break and I'd have to hide it cause my grandma thought it made a perfect thing to use to swat my butt when I got into trouble! There were usually several of them under my mattress, hiding from her!
I could spend HOURS playing with Silly Putty.......molding it into shapes, forming little bubbles and popping them, and lifting pictures off newsprint onto the putty. Simple fun there!!!

Susan...you reminded me of something else when you said the word bubble.....
We used to play with this "stuff".....came in a tube and you squeezed it out into a round ball, stuck a straw in it and blow it up into a big bubble......kind of like a balloon I guess was the idea....I forget the name of it.....but remember it ( and the chemical smell that was probably making us all light-headed !) very well !!

WEIRD! I just remembered that same stuff yesterday when DH was working on a pipe under our sink. He had some sort of stuff in a squeeze tube (patching a hole or something) and it had that exact same smell. Brought back memories!!
I don't remember her name, but my favorite doll was one that "kissed". You put her two hands together and her mouth did this little pucker thing.......I thought she was just adorable.
And..........TROLL dolls! When they first came out, I had tons of them and would make home made homes for them out of shoe boxes. I would cut out little curtains, etc!

[/quote] Barb, It was something like 10 cents at Ben Franklin (you know, the "five and dime & store......good memories there!). OMG, I didn't know Ben Franklin stores were all over the country. We had one right in my neighborhood and my mother worked there for YEARS. She was their window decorator and she also designed all the ends of the aisles. I worked there in high school during Christmas time. What great memories!!!!!!

I forgot about that bubble stuff..... Super Elastic Bubble Plastic I think was the name of it...... and I'm sure they pulled it off the market because of that nice little "high" we all unknowingly got while playing with it!!! Could be that's why we played for hours with the stuff! There was Ben Franklins up the road from us growing up in the Boston, MA area too...... one of my fav places........ and what about good ol' Woolworths with the lunch counter that you could pick out a balloon and what ever the price was in that balloon was what you paid for a banana split???!!! Never did get that penny slip of paper!!! Barb

Tonka trucks...metal ones hula hoop-a classic! wooden blocks (mine are out on the patio as we speak) Breyer horses...a box of them in the rafters waiting for the girls to get a bit older raggedy ann & andy Tinker Toys
To be honest, I like buying the newer versions of the vintage toys...more imagination, less noise and lights..and no batteries!

Oh I totally forgot about the Breyer horses...Katie had bunches of those $$$$ little guys...LOL. And the plastic bubbles...yes they DID have a distinctive smell...they were around even in my play days.
And TROLLS...Remember...I told you all I had a childrens store in the mid 80s-90's. Russ toys revived the Trolls...and I always bought every one that the distributor brought by. They came in sixes so I had a storeful...but they never lasted long. We all looked foreward to Randy's visit with samples of the latest ones. I also kept back ONE of each of them and in my basement I have these two gigantic packing boxes full of trolls! I even ordered the HUGE bride troll and met Katie at the airport with balloons attached to it to congratulate her after she got engaged to Tony at KU!
I would LOVE to visit the toy museum in Buffalo! My whole family knows what a toy nut I am. There is a great toy museum in Nuremburg Germany...and the wind up toy museum in London. I often get "toys" for my birthday, Christmas, and other special events.

Awww, Kristin, I love Raggedy Ann and Andy. My mom handmade us (all five of her daughters) Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls on Christmas. She embroidered "I love Chris" on the heart. I choked up when a lady from our church gave Sarah a handmade Raggedy Ann and Andy doll at her baby shower. Of course, she didn't know about my attachment to my dolls. I remember blowing up those plastic bubbles, too. Those couldn't have been safe. I used to always cut my troll doll's hair. Dp you remember the Chrissy doll? You would push a button in her stomach and make her hair grow longer? Chris

Oh...how could I forget Tetherball...we had one in our back yard and many a spirited game after dinner each night. How about...bongo boards.... www.bongo-boards.com/fitter_Fll100.html?gclid=COD5oPW3g5ICFSGWGgodBi6T9AWith four of us kids...there had to be rules to share this toy...but it wasn't fair. My younger sis Jeanette was the best...she could get on it...get it perfectly balanced...and stand there on it for hours. She would get her turn and last thru at least 2 half hour sitcoms on t.v. before someone got mad and pushed her off...LOL. She is two years younger than me...and thought about getting her one again for her 60th bday...but...afraid she might try it and break something. ;D Jackie

How about this one...did any of you ever grow up playing the Kentucky Derby game? We played it for hours...and it was a cheap piece of cardboard with a spinner on it...and you moved your horse one space ahead if your color came up. I just remember two horses...Whirlaway and Seabiscuit! But it just goes to show you that we have way overdone things for our kids these days.
I had a really happy childhood and about the most advanced electronics we had were the new 45 rpm record players...and tv was black and white...LOL. I DID get a princess phone in a color one Christmas when I was in HS!!!!

I bought a Drowsy for Cassie off Ebay. Not the one I had with the pull string on the side of her cause I couldnt find one that still worked, but the one that you squeeze her stomach and she talks. I played with Thumbelina, wooden tinker toys, inchworm, baby alive, barbie dolls: my Dad had a metal chicken that used to lay eggs. (thats an old one) I liked the books that you can still buy, that you punched out the clothes and folded the little tags over on paper dolls. Baby alive is really ugly now. hehe.
