I know that someone else has a post like this BUT I do have a question. Anyway to make a long story short. I called the LEA to ask if it would be possible for my child to repeat kindergarten and have the same teacher and if we could keep the same aide. She said No to everything. No questions no lets think about it nothing just NO. I do not understand. On top of that she told me that the aide my child had this year would not be retuning next year because of things going on at school. The aide is WONDERFUL and so is the teacher. She puts so much time in at home to make things (flash card with pictures and signs) he is learning so much . I just feel like they don't care. Please help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. we have our IEP meeting in May.
Thank you Lori

I'd ask them WHY they are saying NO! A child goes to school from ages 3-21 so it's totally "ok" to repeat Kindy. I'd love to hear why they are saying NO.
Also...if you really want your child in kindy again, write down why and state your case. You need to explain to them that repeating kindy WOULD be appropriate placement. That is what it boils down to and they would need to state why 1st grade is appropriate. Remember, you ARE part of the team and if moving onto 1st grade truly isn't what you feel is appropriate, then stand your ground at the IEP meeting. They can't just pick placement without you.
Flip side? your child might get all the appropriate accomodations and 1st grade CAN work... so try to keep an open mind if they have some good points.
