Lucy, So happy to read your reply, and welcome here to unomas!
I haven't seen the the Times video but I will, I'm really interested in seeing your precious son, esp. after reading a little about him.
I'm sorry about the current situation in Panama regarding our kids. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you raising your son but I can empathize with you in this regard because I'm a single parent too. Services here in US are better, of course, but from hearing what you've written, your son has the best chance because he has a wonderful mom who is proactive and loving and understands. And now that you invited us if we are ever there, well then the same welcome goes to to you.
My son is 5 and it's all a big learning experience for me. I feel like I'm growing in awareness of what he needs more and more every day, because I seek it, I have no choice but to look out for what will benefit him more. He's in self contained special ed class that I'm finding isn't the best placement and I feel frustrated with our school system at the moment, but I'm looking forward to having my son attend general Kindy come fall. I feel he'll do better amongst typical developing children he can model his behavior and learn from.
I'm sorry about the financial situation with the private schools there in Panama, if the First Lady could fund the Walk, how is it she can't assist in funding for private schools to parents in need?
It's frustrating when I read how you said that the child w/ Ds isn't viewed there as being the same as the rest of the human race. I felt like crying. I wish I had words of wisdom, but all I can say is your son has a great mommy and yes God does carry us through. I wish you all the best, and if you want to do an intro at the open forum, maybe more people will be able to welcome you.
And if you ever just want to chat, please feel free to pm me anytime. And look forward to reading more posts and getting to know you and your son.
