Yep. It's official. I've finally let go of my pride to post this very important poop question. I really can't get him into his very first GI appointment till 5/02...so I'm asking you all first.
When I first complained here about peanut butter I thought I was losing my mind even suggesting the question. And you all were so kind with advice. But now it's really the opposite of that and more like bolders...yes, they are big and difficult to pass and it makes him cry every other night when he goes. I've tried the fiber and the mineral oil, the Miralax not yet...but it's not working.
Have your kids had this problem? I have a friend who said her neice is 4 and they had to buy a different toilet because her poop was clogging the septic system. If you only saw how he cries in pain and there's nothing I can do to help....they're huge...like for a man. It's not fair. I've tried the suppositories, the mineral oil, the extra fiber, the extra water, the exercise...but it's not working. Why for his petite size are they so large? It makes no sense. Am I feeding him too much? Any advice appreciated. thankyou. sorry for the visual.

Okay, this may seem odd, but...when Damara gets this way (not as bad as Jelani), but we give her a "P" fruit...we have always been told that "P" fruits are for Poop...and they really do help her...so try any fruit that starts with the letter "P"...prunes, pineapple, peaches, pears...whatever...worth a try...poor kido I hope you find something to help...
Oh...BTW, the term turkey Turd is very appropriate! LOL

Not long ago, I was watching an infomercial...............it was for some product for adults to "cleanse their colons". (Let me quickly say that I'm NOT encouraging you to buy any of that type of stuff for Jelani!!!) And one thing this guy said was that if we compare the size of poop in a child versus an adult, we notice that kids poop tends to be larger (wider in diameter). And he said that was because WE have years of not totally cleaning out our systems and "stuff" gets stuck along the sides of our colons! Pretty disgusting if you think about it! I said all of that to say that the large size of his poop might not be totally abnormal for a kid.........BUT, the firmness of it could be what is hurting so bad! And that is exactly what something like Miralax helps. Get that stuff softened up, and it will not have to come out as one large hunk of hard painful stuff!!! (Was that delicately put or what? ?) It's actually a very loving gesture Dawn. We both love ya Still ROTFL What you decribed was Brook exactly w/ the whole poo thing. She would SCREAM BLOODY MURDER when she was little and had to go toot toot. I just feel so bad for little Jelani cuz i've been there w/ Brookster and I know it sucks.

LMAO - I think it's been said many times, Uno is one place that it's safe to have a candid poop discussion!
As my husband Brian is fond of saying in regard to Jason, "Man, if that were me I'd be screaming!". However, Jason seems to have no issues as far as seeming like it hurts him or anything. Just very large for some reason and toilet-plugging! We're thinking maybe low muscle tone in that area is why it doesn't hurt him, we have no idea because it sure looks like it should. Sounds like the opposite reaction to what Jelani is experiencing.
I saw part of that same infomercial Susan! LOL
Seriously, I hope the Miralax gives Jelani some relief.

We had that EXACT same problem...(alright, so Elizabeth had it, WE didn't haha). HARD poop that made her cry. It was bad enough that her little bottom would bleed a little and she got a hemmorroid! We tried prescription meds, apricot and peach nectar (worked for a short period of time), everything! Then we started with the Miralax.... WONDER DRUG!!! I can't praise it enough. Without it, Elizabeth would be lost. And a couple of times we have forgot it..and man oh man... back to hard poop! You HAVE to try it. You have to give it a couple of days...then let us know.

I have heard that low tone in the area causes all sorts of constipation issues. That is probably the "why" part, and I think we will find that the Miralax will be the "how" of fixing the problem.
Let us know, Dawn, how it all "comes out" ROTFL

This was a big issue for Ashley now 5 yrs old. Some of you probably remember. Our trick is 1 cup 4oz. baby Gerber pear juice a couple times a week. She now has not had any problems in years. Now if we could just get potty training done I would be happy.

Cassie is on P.E.G its a pwd and you can put it in her food or juice or whatever and it dissolves. Without it, she would be crying in pain and not being able to go poop very good. I got it from my ped. because she gives it to her ds daughter as well. A girl I met in another group just had to put her daughter on it too. It stays in the intestines, and softens poop. Worth asking your doctor about.

Okay sorry to be so graphic but Chandler had this exact same problem, HUGE poops, crying every night, stopping up the toilet and sometime bleeding. He has Celiac so we already have a GI specialist. and part of me actually thought it might be because of the Celiac but the dr said this is actually pretty common in ALL kids not just ours. He started us on a high dosage of Miralax which has completley taken care of this issue. We had a 'cleansing' period for one weekend where he took a full cap full in 8 oz every single hour to clean out all the 'hardened' poop that was just backed up in there. After that, we cut back to 1 cap full in the morn & 1 cap full at night.
