We are FINE , Thank goodness.. but in tears over what is happening all over Iowa this spring. First the deadly tornado in Parkersburg.. a very tiny town like the one i live in and people from ALL over the state came to help out. Now this terrible news from the boy scout camp and CR's flooding which indeed is not very far from us and which has a lot of cherished landmarks. Where Gabe goes for most of his health care is currently being evacuated . in Iowa City. Altho we're not in any harm's way this is going to be a most difficult summer for so many people that I know like my brothers who farm! A quick update for us... there is good news and bad like always!! Ariel fractured a bone in her foot and is currently hoppin around in the "big boot" (so VERY different from the flip flops she loves !) and has had to scrap ALL her summer plans .. let us hope and pray that she can still work part of the summer at Camp Courageous (the Camp for people w/disabililties ) that she loves so much and where she is totally and completely out of the house lol lol. and not whining to me! This deserves a whole 'nother post.. and I want to share more.. but Gabe had (after long.. ardous....stressful .... multiple ) IEP's meetings a REALLY good IEP developed!! AND he gets ESY which in this district is UNHEARD of for ANY student regardless of disability age etc. So he will go two days a week for five weeks to the employment center he was at this school year. And he will like it because my boy is growing up SO fast andhe is wanting to be his own person like never before which is truly the best news. Thanks so much for thinking of us... I truly hope that the news from Iowa improves.. but just now there is just so much loss that we are all reeling

WHEW!!! I am SO relieved that you are safe, but saddened by news of the devastation that surrounds your area. I was in Cedar Rapids a couple of years ago, and it was a nice town full of even nicer people. Please know that all who live there are in my prayers. Thanks for the update!! Poor Ariel, what a frustration that must be. I hope they will take her at camp, it would be a shame for her to miss it. I'm so impressed that you got ESY for Gabe, it sounds like it is coming at a perfect time, when he is making huge gains. Don't be such a stranger, we miss you!!!

I'm thrilled that your family is safe, but such sad sad news coming from your state.
GOOD news about Gabe's IEP. Sounds like a great plan for him!!

Hey Debu...
Hugs dear friend. Glad to hear you guys are fine. I need to call you.. can you pm you phone number again.
Hey, how old do the kids need to be to go to Camp Courageous?
Is it a day camp or overnight? and obviously they take DS... Or special needs camp will not take kids with DS,... Can you believe that?
Oh well I digress... Miss you,
Cathy

Miss all you guys too much more than I can say. Cathy... what are you telling me.. that you think Katie should go to camp?? Actually I think EVERY kid should go to camp courageous.. it is fantastic. They have a regular pool a therapuetic pool rock climbing (and YES they can even get Gabe in the harness and up the wall ~~ I have no idea how!)) and approximately 200 zillion other things . Gabe goes for the weekends (fri pm to Sunday noon) on his waiver program and this year he gets SIX weekends which is just fantastic. They also have weeklong camps but they get very full very fast and it is just nicer for us for to have weekend option. Gabe went to his first camp weekend at three.. that was SO tough but he had a blast then and every other time he has gone. He gets so highly ticked when we take Ariel over ther to work..he is always HEY!!! what about me??? Iasn't this MY camp?? ( I think all the campers feel that way!) A funny about Gabe and Ariel's foot..... we went up the weekend she broke it to check on her and Gabe really didn't react at all... but all the next week getting ready for school he said Owie my foot and "limped" for Joni who gets him on the van for school. Guess he thought it was worth a try.. anything to get out of school lol lol More later guys.. Gabe's IEP process is worth a whole post of it's own.. Cathy.. sent the PM!!
