Mystery solved ... Joy got sick from the sweet little calf at her summer camp!
The camp — which is a special-needs camp in Northeast Iowa — has baby animals that campers bottle feed. Apparently my dear daughter bottle-fed the calf and then hand-fed herself before washing her paws.
She contracted cyclosporidium — a fun little parasite that turns your intestines to liquid. That was the reason for the vomiting, diarrhea and GAS that put her father to shame. And because the bacteria from the diarrhea got into her ...ahem ... delicate areas ... she also contracted a urinary-tract infection.
Poor kid.
But we got out of the hospital yesterday, and we're slowly but surely starting to see signs of the real Joy peeking through. She's not eating great yet, but she's definitely smiley and wanting to get outside.
Going to have a loooong lesson with her on handwashing (and not touching cow butts).
Thanks to all who kept her in thoughts/prayers. I appreciate all of you!
Jenifer, mom to Joy Daisy

I'm very surprised that the adults in charge didn't make absolutely certain of the hand washing. They usually are very careful of that sort of thing. Did you let them know about the infection? You really should report it to them so that they can review their methods & correct this error.
I'm glad to hear that Joy is going to be fine & that you get to see a bit of her real self again.
