:)New to this board and want to introduce myself and and say Hello and "boy it's been a long road so far, but I'd do it all again for this blessing I have" ;D My little boy was born with DS severely premature at 26.5 wks weighing 1 pound 6 oz. 11-21-02. He spent 3 mos. in NICU, had inguinal hernia repair surgery when he was 5 lbs., nasal septum repair surgery at 10lbs. and adnoidectomy/tonsillectomy just this past May and now he's a whopping 27lbs and the joy of my life! But at almost 3 yrs old, he really knows how to work his toddler status on mommy's nerves... As a first time mom I'm proud to say he has past alot of hurdles, WE did it together and he's doing great, just doesn't seem to want to take those first steps yet.! OT. PT are all working with him and we're expecting to be getting a rear wheel walker soon and I hope this will help motivate him to walk!! Our initial IEP is in two wks., I'm writing out my goals for Jelani and I'm hoping to bring his OT along for support... Does anyone have a bit of advice for a first timer going into this IEP ???Any advice or comments so appreciated. THANKS Dawn

Welcome Dawn and Jelani!!! Glad to have you here at Unomas! There are plenty of us that have survived the first IEP and then some! If you want, post up in the General Forum about your son and up and coming IEP if you can. Then you can also get a proper "welcome" and info about the IEP process if you want! For me, I always approached our IEP's as part as the "team" and on the same side as them. Try to keep smiling and always remember to ask for what you want but learn to be flexible. Good luck.... can't wait to hear more about your family! Adrienne
