I know this probably belongs in the "fun topics" section, but it just is NOT fun at all, and I just need to whine.
Last Saturday, we went to Dollywood for the day. Had a GREAT time, and Emily loved all the rides...........especially the big wooden roller coaster. She insisted on riding with her dad, and I sat several seats behind them. I love that ride......normally! We went over one big hill, and my butt came up off the seat a few inches. I love it when that happens!!! BUT, when I came back down to my seat, my ribcage "caught" on the bar that holds you in your seat. And, I felt a "snap". Hurt like crazy, and I was miserable the rest of the ride.........and honestly for the rest of the day, although I tried to keep smiling and have a good day. The pain hasn't gotten better, and taking a deep breath is sooo painful, so I went to a walk in clinic last night after work. They did an Xray, and sure enough..............one rib is cracked. The doc said to apply ice, not lift anything heavy, and take Ibuprofen (800mg 3 times a day..........yuck!) and to do deep breathing exercises to prevent pneumonia. I could have given myself that same advice, I guess without going to the doctor. But now I know why it hurts so bad.
I mentioned this to my dad, and his comment was basically that I needed to realize I was just tooooooo old to be riding roller coasters. Surely NOT!

Oh, heck no!! You're only as old as you feel, as long as you keep doing what you love it'll keep you young! So keep riding the roller coasters, and anything else you enjoy! By the way, I love roller coasters, too! I do know what you mean, though. In March I was cleaning out my big whirlpool tub after Nicholas dumped a bottle of baby oil in it. Guess I stayed in that bent over position too long, and when I went to stand up, my back had gave out! Couldn't walk, sit, lay, anything!! It was awful, had my older son take me to the ER, which is the only time in my life I've ever gone for myself!!! Waiting there in the ER, and the couple weeks after when I could barely walk, I just kept thinking, "Wow, so this is the stuff that happens as you get older." Hope you get too feeling better soon! It's awful to have that laid up feeling!

I Just refuse to accept that I could get too old for that!!! NOPE...just won't believe it.

I don't think you are or anyone is too old to have fun. I don't ride rollercoasters anymore but I used to. It was so much fun! I don't like to do it much now since it makes me feel funny. Maybe it is a altitude thing? I don't know.........Debbie

Debbie, I don't enjoy the steel coasters that go upside down at all..........I get a headache, and it's just not worth it. But a good old fashioned wooden one? Now, THAT'S fun.

NO, you're not too old. Stay away from the Bar. Oh, that's right you weren't out drinking. Sorry you're hurting ((hugs)) (notice the hugs weren't capitalized so they wouldn't hurt). Pat

How in the world is breaking a rib a sign of getting too old??? I don't get that at all. It reminds me of a time when I was in my early 30's and & went to the doctor for an infection of some sort - sinus or uti - and he told me that I could expect to get more infections since I was getting older. I never went back to that doctor - what a lazy attitude for a doctor to have. You keep on riding those 'coasters, Susan & I'll live vicariously through you until we can scrape together enough cash to take my 6 I have always just loved those roller coasters!

I don't know Chris........just assumed it meant it was a sign of my bones getting older and more fragile. I've ridden a LOT of roller coasters in my life and never broke a bone doing it! Makes me a bit reluctant to try it again.

So sorry you broke your rib. I admire you, I am afraid of rollar coasters. You are just a young sweet thing. Remember, we can deduct a minimum of 10-15 years off our ages. I am the new 30 since I am 45-tee hee. Kim
