His doc has been on vacation since Chris wore the heart monitor. Just talked with him today.
Chris now has Bradycardia aka slow heart rate. Geez first he has Tachycardia aka rapid heart. Anywho his rate would drop low at times, to around 35 to 37. What was more concerning to him is that the print out or what ever he was looking at shows his heart not going for 3 and 1/2 seconds at times during the 24 hour test. He is talking a pace maker BUT said he wants to look into a few things first, such as talk to his colleagues (sp?) at Columbia, he wants me to get Christopher's Thyroid tested pronto, just to make sure its not that and I need to talk to the Doc. that is handling his OCD meds. He wants to cover all the bases first before doing the pace maker.
Then in August he wants Chris to wear the heart monitor again for 24 hours to see what is what.
Colin and I told the Doc we would prefer not to due the pace maker unless absolutely necessary. He said we are OK now but if the next test or any test there after shows his heart resting for over 4 to 5 seconds it will be mandatory he get one.
So thats what I know now and will have the Thyroid tested this week and luckily we go back to the Neurologist August 5th to discuss if the med he is on could be doing this. Heart Doc looked up the med and said it could be a symptom of the med but very very rare.
I know others have it worse but man oh man Chris just never seems to get a break with things sometimes.

Wow....that's alot to hear huh? Maybe it's his meds and he can regulate with making a change in the meds.....Maybe it will be just to change his meds. I'm with you on not wanting the pace maker unless really needed...Please keep us updated, I will keep you all in our prayers and often think about Chris and you. As many of us on this board, we deal with heart issues and I always worry that one visit to the Cardio will change our entire life....I always dread it. Sure hope it works out ! Hugs and prayers to you all!

I'm sorry you got news you didn't want to hear. Poor Chris, I hope that the tests show its a meds thing that can be sorted without the pace maker.

THANKS as always gals. I know a Pace Maker is not the end of the world, I mean lots of older people use them BUT Man oh Man Colin and I are just hoping that it doesn't come to that, he is only 15 and just deserves a break in my opinion, KWIM BUT if it is mandatory YES we will get it for him. I have decided even thou we have an appointment with his Neurologist on Aug. 5th, I am going to call her and see. I actually feel bad giving him the meds not knowing if that is part of the problem Hopefully I can reach her tomorrow by phone. Anywho I appreciate you guys listening to my worries CC ~

CC- I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers, I'm hoping that this is just due to the meds and can be fixed easily. My sister was 19 when she had to get a pacemaker, so I know the feeling of not wanting to have to do this. ((HUGS))

Blood tests have come back and NO Thyroid Problems so that is good ;D Odd thing that showed up which would have nothing to due with his heart issues was his Uric Acid came back high Was 8.7 and the range should be between 3.1 - 7.0. Not sure what is up with that but we will recheck it in 4 months the Ped suggested. Spoke with the Neurologist and she was going to contact the Heart Doc, which she did but I missed her call today so will talk with her tomorrow. She may ween him off the meds not sure yet as she really does not think the problem is from the meds but rather from when they corrected his Tachycardia (sp?). Even the Ped feels thats why he now has the Bradycardia (sp?). We shall find out soon I guess. But at this point Chris leaves for his sleep over camp in a week and a few days and none of us are sure it would be a good time to mess with his meds, KWIM I will find out tomorrow for sure what the 2 docs have decided. What I do know for sure is that each and every doc we have for Christopher care tons about him and I am very thankful for that. CC ~
