gotta share this...it was news to me how to get rid of those end of summer pesky fruit flies.
My pest guy said to get about 6 of those plastic wine glasses or whatever you have. Add 1/4 inch of wine or apple cider vinegar. Then put just a DROP of liquid dish detergent on top. Do not mix the soap with the wine. Leave on the countertops and you will be amazed how many you collect.

LOL...almost immediately after I posted about my fruit flies...my yard men came and told me the sod they planted last month has grub worms....yikes!!!!!!!!! I am cursed.
Don't look for me putting out little cups of wine on my lawn for the bugs and squirrels...LOL

Grub worms grow into Japanese beetles - ew. They attract moles - moles find them yummy - ew. I hope the yard man got rid of them soon enough!

Welllllllllllll Steff...don't congratulate yourself too soon as far as GETTING RID of them...LOL. I am still catching the suckers...no fresh fruit in this house for over a week...nothing open anywhere and trash is scoured....sigh. But they are not swarming anymore...and that is good news. Also discovered that they don't like sherry...LOL.
Ed kids me about needing to get home and check our traps ;D
There are sprays but think you have to get a pest person to use them.

I read "fruit flies," & when I was a premed major, we breed those in genitics class ;D Young males look exactly like females, ther is wild eye or normal eye, they mature in 9 hrs, & live for only 2 weeks. (Yes, I mixed in a couple of young males in my experiment, but my lab partner stopped by later & pulled them out) Now aren't you glad that I can remember that after 27 years I knew it was info you really needed to know. Pat P.S. I wish I knew how to kill them then!

Funny Pat! Ed took genetics at the U of Kansas many moons ago...and we often had to leave our evening's merriment to go count his flies!
Good news is...a week later I am still fly free...however...this AM in the bathroom there was a tiny ANT crawling up my arm......hmmmm wonder if THEY are alcoholics!?!

a sure fire way to get rid of pesky fruit flies is with a lil itty bitty tiny fly swatter.
