Okay moms and dads. I am freaking out.
I took Dani in for her kindergarten check up and her Dr. was worried because she has not grown much since her last visit. She is currently 42" and 42#. She had me get her thyroid test done. I did not do it last year. Anyway, my Dr. called twice to talk about the results but would not leave any info.
Does anyone have any insight to what could be going on with Dani's thyoid and if so what do you do?
Thanks for any input.
Kim

I can only guess that her levels are off and may need meds. Damara has been on synthroid for 2 years now and has never had her meds adjusted...she is doing great with the meds. I sure hope you get in touch with the Dr. tomorrow to get the info...I bet you are going crazy with wonder and worry...Let us know...I'll keep you all in my prayers!

It's always so worrisome when docs do that. It really does sound like her thyroid could be low, and the doc wants to talk about medications. Keep us informed.

I dunno should wait to talk with the doc. BUT perhaps she tested positive for hashimotos it does not necessarily mean she will hafta be on meds. My girls doc called me when she was found to be positive for hashimotos and has yet to have to be on meds and she was diagnosed at 5 and she's 10 now. Don't sweat it and even if it is you should be relieved that it was detected its only meds everyday and from what I hear not so bad and undetected thyroid disease can be harmful to her in all aspects of her life. Please let me know what the doctor said I'm curious. Thanks Steff

Eric's thyroid test came back alittle "off"...but they didn't put him on any meds. The doc just wants to recheck it in a year. He isn't a big weight gainer either...he's 8 yrs. old and weights 42lbs...lean, lanky guy!

Ashleigh takes Synthroid, also, for her thyroid. She's been taking it for several years and has always been on the same dose. We have to have bloodwork done once a year to check it. Hope you get in touch with that doctor today. I've been stressed like that before when they have called and left a message, it's not fun!

Thanks all for you kind and quick responses. I wil let you know. Of course I did the bad thing and Googled. Since Dani is kind of tall for being 5 at 42 inches and her wieght is at 42 pounds, I did not think anything is going on with her thyroid. Reminder--never google things. All of you have been the best resource. Okay, bad me I am going to google hashimotos--thanks Steffi. I am also upset with her father too. He never responded to my email when I had her tested and all he said was let him know I find out. Course he was never supportive in the beginning and puts up an act now that we are divorced. Sometimes, I feel so alone. But, am so blessed and thankful for Dani So- have NO reasons to complain-EVER. Will let you know. We could do meds.I hope that is all it is. I wish I could get meds for a sluggish Throid ;D Do yo think I can get something to speed up my thyoid to get rid of my roley poley belly. Hugs, Kim

Collin is 8 and has been on Synthroid for a year now. We had him tested every 6 months. One test would be normal the next would be slightly off, the next would be normal, etc...Finally when he failed to grown height/weight wise in a year we decided it was time to try it.
Now at 8 he is 52lbs and 48" tall.

Well, I heard from the Doctor. It is not an underactive thyroid. The Endocronologist was asking her all these questions about Dani such as pulse, heart palatations and other things I have not associated with the thyroid.
Dani is scheduled for an all day ultrasound procedure at our local Children's Hospital. My Doctor said it may be Grave's disease. We have two days of testing. So her blood work must have been quite abnormal.
Tell me not to Google or I will work myself up.
They can't get her in for a few weeks so will let you know what they find out. I was really hoping she needed something like synthroid.
She starts kindergarten tomorrow.
Thanks for listening.
