Since Chris has been home from his sleep over camp we have been weening him off his OCD meds to make sure the meds are not the reason for his most recent heart issues. ALL I can say is OMG this SUCKS for Chris and for us too. NO ONE is happy with this, I truly just hope it tells us, if its the meds or not KWIM?? Not to much longer to go but I have to say my heart breaks for Chris as the meds help him tons and being off he meds for now he truly is not responsible for his actions Not looking for pity here just venting and feeling for my favorite Character of all time right now. THANKS for listening CC ~

I, too am sending hugs.....I can't imagine life in my household without Erin's meds !! and as hard as it is for parents....the poor kids !! When I think of how exhaustive Erin's behaviors are on me....I think.....she must be equally exhausted....and can't turn it off.....because believe....she is a happy and content girl on meds vs. the scattered, aggresive, hair standing on end child without them !

(((CC & Christopher))) Hey, CC, Stevie is still quite young & little, so she can't really hurt me yet, but her compulsive shutting of doors & drawers has produced plenty of bruises & pinches for just about everyone in the house. She is beginning to get a handle on it, so I have hope that other compulsions won't be insurmountable. Poor Chris. I'll bet he feels trapped by his own obsessions & compulsions. Gotta be hard.
Do the docs know what meds they will try next for the OCD if it proves to be the meds causeing the heart trouble?
I'll be praying for your family.

Oh man! I feel for you!
Last spring I really was tempted to wean Angela off all her meds. She's been on some med combination or another since she was 6, and I was feeling like I don't REALLY know who my REAL kid is. KWIM?
Anyway, we were having some med issues and didn't know what was a side effect and what was just new behavior, did meds need to be adjusted...it was all so confusing. So I brought up the idea to her neuro psych about weaning off meds.
He did not laugh.
He did not smile.
He blinked a couple of times and said, "You do realize, that with Angela's level of OCD and aggressive behavior, you are playing with fire, right? I will certainly support you if you want to try, however I will tell you this. Every year I have a family or two decide they want to do this, for the very same reasons as you. And every year, those families end up in severe crisis once enough of the meds are out of the system and the behaviors quickly escalate. The OCD is difficult itself, but add the aggressive behavior and you're putting her at very high risk of hospitalization."
He was trying to be very nice about it. And I didn't get the sense he was trying to scare me into not trying it. I think he was just bringing me back to reality a bit.
Sorry for the rambling reply. I just wanted to say...I feel for you.

wow, im learning tons
molly is VERY aggressive and also has many OCD tendencies. We just laugh and go on, cuz EVERYONE in the house is like that!
not funny after getting my head shut in the car door/micowave/refrig! Good to know that she's not the only one.
What meds are you using? since 6? she's 8 now and making her poor teachers FRANTIC! They've all learned to watch the signs for 'ready to pop' and scramble to adjust to her needs.
She's already slapped at a little girl this year.
do tell...i work in a pharmacy and am intrigued as to what you are using, and if you are seeing a specialist, or their family docs?
thanks

THANKS gals We now have to wait a week of him being totally off the meds before he can wear the 24 hour heart monitor. Kind of stinks that he has to start school this week but we have no choice. One thing Colin and I know for sure no questions at all the meds are most needed for Chris. AMAZING honestly to see him off the meds My heart really breaks for him right now. I will say what does seem interesting is since we starting weening him off the meds KNOCK WOOD his heart rate seems to be just fine. We will know lots more after we do the 24 hours test. Man oh Man if the meds in any way are the reasons he has been having issues with his heart will I feel TERRIBLE as I am the one to give them to him, KWIM Anywho we are close to finding out I hope for sure and for Christopher's sake I hope they have another med that works as well as this one. THANKS for listening, you guys are the BEST CC ~

Christie, I'm sorry Chris (and you and Collin too) are going through this tough time. Chris will be in my prayers this week. Please let us know what the 24 hour heart test shows.

You need to give yourself a break, CC. I hear what you're saying about being the one to give him the meds, but be fair to yourself. You made the best decision you could with the information you had at the time. Chris' OCD is a quality of life issue, and you are investigating every possibility for him. That's a really GOOD thing.
I have mixed feelings about this, part of me hopes its the meds causing his problems, but since they seem so beneficial for him, let's hope it is something unrelated but fixable. It would be nice for Chris if you could give them back to him, especially since you're seeing such a difference in him. It must be heartbreaking, and the timing (at the beginning of the school year) quite frankly sucks. Hang in there!
