Today while standing in the hours long Sprint lines with Ed...I saw a woman in a tee shirt that said MY CHILD HAS MORE CHROMOSOMES THAN YOUR CHILD...and of course was pretty sure what that meant.
As they left I went up and asked her about the shirt and we immediately 'connected'. ;D Great people with a one year old daughter who was not with them. I plan to get in touch with them and hopefully get to know them better. I also told her about Uno Mas which she had never heard about...so if my new friend shows up...hope we can welcome her.
I also had a couple in last night at my First Friday Art Walk with twins. One of the twins has DS and I am like a lot of you...I was dying to talk to them about it...but just didn't feel right going up and saying anything.
Has anyone ever come up with the perfect "so...I see your child has DS introductory line? ;D

I know you are wanting a parent to respond Jackie, I hope you don't mind me answering. Do you have a current picture of Emily with you in your purse? If you do, consider this for a suggestion. "Oh, how I remember those years" or "Watching your beautiful girl or boy really takes me back to my girl when she was at the age" then show her your picture of Emily or simply say,"By the way, I have a picture of her. Would you be interested in looking at it?" You have been there and you know the journey. You would be a great asset to this parent as she would be interested in your experiences. And of course introduce her to Unomas........Debbie

I guess most of us, or other people, have alot of pictures on their computer but not a billfold anymore. And we don't give out our e-mail addresses to those we don't know. It is a shame to be honest. I shouldn't say since I don't carry picture's either in my billfold. A picture of your child when they were young is a good idea though. Now I have a different problem, no one knows I have Down syndrome except for those in my Down syndrome group here. So how would I go about it when I see a parent with a child who has Down syndrome? Hmm, I know. That parent may not believe me...........Debbie ;D

It is so cool to be so welcomed here!! I love it. Ya know, after we found out Kaelyn had an extra chromosome, we started noticing more and more people in the community with down syndrome. Of course, we would stare, but not in the bad way. We wanted so bad to go up and hug their parents! I'm sure we would have gotten some weird responses! ha ha. Anyway, we've never known what to say to people either. But we would sure love to talk to each and everyone we see! Thankfully I was wearing my shirt that day! (my husband and I always get great comments when we wear our shirts!). Now I have not only a great new friend, but several more to talk to on here! Good night everyone, I fly out of town for work tomorrow, away from my precious baby who is sleeping soundly.
