Ryan has been invited to his second birthday party (third party overall) in the last 3 months! This is so fantastic!
Ryan has been playing in a soccer/baseball/basketball league that is made up of many of the same kids going from sport to sport. We've gotten to know some of the parents better and now Ryan is reaping the benefits.
What is so cool is that when we go, there are kids with disabilities all over the place. Talk about being "at home"! It is so very comfy and no stress (other than the norm). It's not like going somewhere where people don't know your kid and you are more on guard. We eat, drink, and ALL - including parents - have a great time. So I guess you can say I'm looking forward to the party as much as Ryan is ;D ;D
Do you guys remember about Ryan's birthday party this year? We invited his whole class and only one kid showed. Well, next year we will go with the sports kids - I know they will show and it will be lots of fun.

Jodi I am sooo happy to hear all about Ryan and his newfound friends. I had yet to tell anyone about my choice to send Olivia to a special education school for middle and high school if it works out. She started this september for 6th grade and must say so far it's going really really well. Olivia was very popular at our old reg education school and loved by all but yet in her 6 years there went to 1 birthday party in kinder and had play dates that I had arranged but there was never a second and was never invited one time to a friends house with the exception of one girl who invited her trick or treating last year. I had been pulling my hair out to come to the decision to send her to a new special ed. only school. BUT so far she has 3 new friends that she plays with and talks about constantly. She is very happy. Her crankiness has turned to happiness as of late and am liking the decision so far. Today I am sending a note home to one girl in her class' mom to see if she can come over and play with Liv. I really believe she has social skills that are amazing and am not at all worried she make take on negative habits. The classroom she is in suits her needs and she is put in with kids like her who are mostly verbal and have similar education skills. Plus she gets to go swimming too and thats neat as she loves it a lot and the weight should start to come off if she starts to do it on a regualr basis. She lol told me she want to be a cheerleader there and you should see the cute cute uniforms . OMG... She seems very happy and I really like the staff she doesn't get lost in the crowd and seems to be starting to make genuine friendships. Fingers crossed that it was the right move won't know until more time passes. I can so relate to all your saying. I was so tired and heartbroken when I tried to get friends for her on a continuous basis but the kids were growing up and like her just didn't wanna hang with her ya know? It really really hurt Olivia a lot seeing her bros friends come over . She was getting soo soo lonely and it was breaking this gals heart to bits. She has been really sad about this over the last hmmm 2 years or so. I relate so much to all you wrote and hope that this is a new beginning for Ryan. (((HUGS))) Steff
