My name is stacy. John was born march 30,2008. My husband and I were aware of our chances( a 1 in5 chance). John blasted into the world. We weren't prepared for the scare of a lifetime. Leukemia!! John was rushed from one hospital to Children's. During that time, we were trying to prepare ourselves, for anything. John went through a round of chemotherapy. He did wonderful. He was so sick after birth, he only soared during the chemo. After the last dose (at home) we went to clinic the following Monday. This has to be where he got RSV. He was only 2 weeks old. We stayed in the hospital for the first month of his life. He is 5 and a half months now. STRONG and EAGER to do everything . Today we officially returned his oxygen and pulse ox monitor. Wow. It is truly a blessing to have this little man in my life. It was tough in the beginning. He is 3 months free of leukemia. I am so thankful for my son. So welcome JOHN!! Thank you for picking us for your parents. I am so honored. Life is good. ;D

Welcome to Uno Mas. What a roller coaster ride My daughter, Emily, is 28...lives with her oldest sister 500 miles away and just flew alone to Baltimore to visit another sister and go to the NYC Buddy Walk.
Her life was a rollercoaster start too...three surgeries in the first 10 days...and a colostomy bag for her first two years. I bet you are like we were...just NOW starting to get into the nitty gritty of DS which has probably taken a back seat to all the rest of the medical probs. But glad you are now on a more even path.

Welcome Stacy and John! What a little trooper you have there! So glad to hear he's doing better and now you can just enjoy him as a baby and not worry so much about all the medical stuff! ;D
I'm Valerie, my little guy Nicholas is now 5. We've dealt with the medical stuff, too, he had a heart defect, he's had 5 surgeries and 5 years old!
Very nice to get all that behind you and move on to just enjoying being a parent! Congrats!

Welcome to Uno Mas! You guys must be FLYING with the relief of sending back all the gizmos. I didn't even know it was possible to have leukemia at birth! Your little man is obviously a spunky little fighter. We love hearing about new babies, so share all you want, you can never bore this bunch with baby talk!!!

Hi Laura, yep, you can get it from birth. Cassie had the "blasts" at birth. In simple terms they told me she had transient leukemia, which would probably go away at around 3 months, which it did. But, it could return as full blown leukemia at age 3-5 years old. I guess we will tackle that if it comes............. sighs.
