I'm not sure if has ever been posted before, but I just saw this myself for the first time. Its a YouTube video about a man named Dwight D. Core, 48 years old, who had Down Syndrome. The Video's are called "My Favorite Child"Part I and Part II.. He was born in the sixties, when it was strongly encouraged to place developmentally challenged children in institutions. His father made these black and white video's about his son. They are truly amazing. I found myself smiling and crying at the same time. The parts with his sisters are especially heart-tugging. The films are being included in the United States National film registry, which is quite an honor. I understand this beautiful spirit has passed away this week. These films will be his legacy.

Touching and loving. After watching it, I can't imagine what those parents must have gone thru. I'm so grateful that Elizabeth was born to us in an era where the institution of our children is not the "norm" and parents are not led to believe that if they loved their child and wanted the best for them that they would place them in these places.
How selfless those parents must have been to go thru that emotional turmoil to do what they thought best for their son.
Thanks for the link Sheryl

Dwight wasn't much older than me. A year in fact. That should give you an idea of when I was born. I am glad I wasn't put in a place to live. My parent's decided to walk down another path instead. I know that not everyone can do that. I need to watch the video but, my computer signal is low so I don't know how long I would be able to watch it...........Debbie
