I know this may sound strange to some of you, but its a big deal for me. Eric has the dual diagnosis of DS and Autism. He never has been a great "player", as in games, toys, etc. He is more of an "observer". The other day we were playing "Mother May I" with my two grandaughters. Usually Eric sits and watches TV when we do this. My oldest grandaughter, Victoria, insisted that Eric play with them. She called out " Eric, take 5 Dinosaur steps"..Suddenly he said what could have possibly been (in his language).. "Mother may I?", and started growling (like a dinosaur) and was taking these huge, menacing steps. You can see how hard he was concentrating to make these movements. We all started clapping and High-fiving him....he was so excited. Now he's like a "Mother May I Machine".....will join in every time we play! Its amazing what being around typical children can do for our kids..(.makes me rethink the whole contained classroom setting thing.) My grandaughters are the best therapists we could ever have. And I'm very thankful Eric has them in his life....just thought I'd share!

Awww brought tears to my eyes. That is just wonderful. Thanks for sharing that and that is absolutely true it makes sense. Just hope that there are enough open minded kids out there in the world willing to play with our kids.
