;D What a LONG but inceredibally fun and informative day. I learned SO very much and Brook suprised momma w/ tunz of stuff. Put the girl in the environment and watch her go. First we saw the PT and OT. Brook climed stairs kicked the ball, slid down the big girl slide, colored lines and scribbles and has very good control of the pen. Then we saw the hearing lady. Brook has fluid behind her eardrum They are not sure if it's due to her sickness right now or not so we will go back in 6 weeks. Then we saw the "intern ENT guy". Mighty big tonsils way down there he says. Gotta go see the big wig ENT guy in a couple weeks. Talk about tubes and tonsil-out-a-me. Uggg. Cross that bridge later. Then we saw the ST. Now keep in mind Brook does not get ST except what momma teaches her and I have to admit i'm probally no good at it. Brook got 2 hours of ST today and...... drumroll please...... SHE SAID WORDS!! REAL VERBAL UNDERSTANDABLE WORDS!!!!! I almost bawled ;D We had baby, arm (farm), og (dog) pooh, blue, ello (yellow), boo, maa, moo and every sound the ST did she would copy. She did everything the ST did. I'm so very proud. I will be finding her a ST if it costs me a zillion dollars. She also got video recorded on her walking and running skill for Dr Pinter to "use as study". She was a celebrity there today. Everyone was so pleased w/ all her signs and knowledge of stuff they asked her. I was so very happy. She can't do some of the things on their "scale/chart" like cut w/ sizzors but I said NO sizzors!! She wouldn't even pick them up b/c she knows she isn't allowed to have them. She can't do a button or jump or stand on one foot or string a block etc but in my head I say who cares. She is a wonderful girl and very smart. They gave her a new doll and we left for home. Thanks for all who mentioned a Ds clinic so i'd hunt one down and find it. Great experence

WTG Brook and Mom! I knew you were doing an awesome job with her, but it's great to have the experts agree, LOL! Glad you found a Ds clinic. We really do love the one in Nashville, although most times we only go once a year. Very helpful place.

Oh CC, long story short.... Her case manager said to me one day Brook doesn't need ST b/c I talk to her all day. She will catch up.....Grrrr. After a couple days when I call the main office they changed her tune to there just isn't enuf ST's to go around and Brook is doing fine. She'll get some ST when she goes to school. Yep I was livid and thought about pulling out the cards in the law books and other things I learned from classes i've been taking but didn't feel like fighting so I just tried harder to teach her myself. I learned so much from the ST there. I'll NOW find her an ST somewhere!!! Dr Pinter will write a note/script for me after the holiday season if i'm still having trubbles w/ EI dropping the ball. I feel sad b/c who knows where she would be if she had ST for a few years now. Can't dwell on that though. The time is now I spose. Thx for asking

It's good to get an idea of what will happen when we go. Joshua's speech has really taken off lately. He says a whole lot of words, but I'm not sure if he'll mimic a speech therapist. He's not usually cooperative when we ask, "Can you say 'ball'?", but he says "ball" if there's a ball around and he wants to talk about it. You know what I mean? He uses words to communicate, but doesn't like to show off for us. He can't do a button, stand on one foot, or cut with scissors, either. I've never asked him to string a block, but I don't think he could. He can stack two blocks now, though! ;D I'm also not interested in teaching him to cut with scissors yet. Thanks for sharing your experience!

FREEEZZZZZING!! 25* right now w/ that wind...OMGoodness! I know it's way colder elsewhere but this is cold for here. It's been snowing at the farm all day. My mom did not attempt to go to work. I wanted to tell you though... I thought Brook wasn't going to listen to the ST lady AT ALL. If it was going to be anything like how she is w/ her PT and OT, forget it. OMG, she was hooked to her from the minute they sat to play w/ the farm and the animals. She was the intern, probally 30ish. Another SLP "big wig" stood behing a two way mirror. Mom sat in the chair in the corner b/c Brook coulda cared less if momma was there...LOL She was wonderful I hope she is there when you guys go.
