Went to see our ENT in Cleveland. Eric has constant "drainage" from his Left ear for the past 4 months. It will go away for a week or so after using Ciprodex ear drops. But then it starts again. This past week its been slightly bloody. No temp, no pain, but I can tell when it starts because he gets very irritable and acts out more. At first the ENT was like...no big deal(we had seen him numerous times in the last few months), but now he thinks its going on too long and wants to check whats going on inside the ear. FINALLY! We are scheduled for out-patient surgery this coming Thursday (Jan.22). After the doc checks out the ear, he may repair the tiny hole in Eric's eardrum. He's had it since 2 years of age, but they kept waiting to see if it closed on its own. If its still there, he will patch it. I'm not too thrilled about another surgery (he just had hernia and undescended testicle done in October), but I want to get to the cause of this ear drainage. I worry about his hearing in the long term. All that drainage and gunk can't be good...and I worry about infection...he's going to get resistant to the antibiotics if this continues. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers if you remember....thanks!

Will be thinking of you guys. I know how scary and frustrating it is to have so many surgeries/procedures done. We've sadly been there, done that. Keep us posted!!!!

anding an update: We had to cancel Eric ear surgery for today. And this time it isn't because Eric is sick...its because I got a lovely case of Shingles...yuk! Eric can't be exposed to this because he can get the Chicken Pox (same virus). We have to wait 2 weeks to see if he has any problems. He had the vaccine, but the doc didn't want to take any chances. I guess if Eric does get the virus, he is a threat to other kids who may have a compromised immune system. They don't want us anywhere around the pediatric department. I feel like such a outcast! Hopefully, we can get this done on Feb. 5...so its more eardrops for the boy. And some anti-viral meds for mom. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers...(I need them anyways)
