Help! I am freaking out about this peanut butter thing... that is ALL Eric eats. He eats a peanut butter sandwich at least 2-3 times a day. He also eat Keebler chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies in his lunch. I know they said store bought peanut butter is not in the recall, but they keep widening the list of products. I'm now trying to figure out what I can give Eric to eat...he is so limited and peanut butter is his favorite! He basically "survives" on this along with Cherrios and a vitamin. Any suggestions? They do sell Almond butter at our heath food store...very expensive, but if he'll eat it, I'll buy it.

Well, we eat lots of Jif.....myself included.... but Reece is my only peanut butter cracker girl and she hasn't wanted any for many months, so we don't have any. As far as cookies I bought Walmart brand peanut butter cream cookies just a few weeks ago and they are almost all gone and we did not get sick.
So, for me I am not worried until they tell me about Jif... and the two we bought from Sam's club would probably be ok because we've already started to eat it for a while now and we are not sick.

We eat a lot of peanut butter, too. I have some science background and have done a fair amount of research concerning this recall. The peanut butter that's being recalled is NOT directly sold to consumers (but it is sold in bulk to institutions such as schools and nursing homes as well as to manufacturers like Keebler) - so things like jars of Jif, Peter Pan and Skippy peanut butter, etc. are not included in the recall. Peanut butter sandwiches are fine if you make them yourself with your own jars of peanut butter. I wouldn't want my children eating peanut butter sandwiches at school right now, however.
They are recalling products that are "made" with peanut butter (things like peanut butter crackers, cookies, ice cream with peanut butter, etc.) because those manufacturers buy peanut butter in bulk from the company in question. We have several packages of crackers that are sitting in our pantry until we hear more information. Meanwhile, if you make your own peanut butter cookies with store-bought peanut butter, there's nothing to worry about. Products like Jif, Peter Pan and Skippy peanut butter are made by completely different manufacturers - the recall only concerns products made by the Peanut Corp. of America and distributed by King Nut Cos. of Ohio.
For right now, I would just keep boxes/containers of anything questionable until we hear more. Make your own peanut butter sandwiches and cookies, and spread your own peanut butter on crackers.
Hope this helps, Kim, Logan (Ds, 5) and Carson (3)

Thanks for the information, Kim. We don't buy the crackers or any of those kinds of things, but my DH loves peanut butter sandwiches with homemade strawberry jam. I had been warning him away from the peanut butter, but I'll let him know it's okay. That will make his day!
