Jackie,
My mother could entice any thing to come to her. We went outside one morning when I was about 10 years old, and a pigeon with only one leg was standing on the edge of mom's strawberry patch. Mom got her canary seed and made a trail, and the bird followed it eating all the way.
The bird was there the next day, and so we did the seed thing again. We did that for several days. Eventually, the bird lost all fear of us, came into the house at will, and went to a cage there to eat. Mom was an emaculate housekeeper, so she would close the door on the bird, and then she'd carry the cage outside for him to leave.
My dad worked in an open pit copper mine and it shut down for two weeks every July...7/1 through 7/15. We camped for two weeks. We took horses, the dog, the cat, the pigeon, and any other animals that we had.
We went to a mountain range 90 miles from where I grew up. My dad ran cattle near where we camped, so we would ride and check the cattle, swim in a small area where the water backed up due to a beaver dam, read books and just hang out. I always took a friend.
I do not remember how long we had that bird, but she/he lasted at least two summers. The bird's name was Henny Penny, and I do not have a clue as to the sex of the thing.

Hi Ladies~
What a wonderful way to get to know one another.
Jackie, I would love to meet you one day. You sound awesome and we would totally get along.
Lorraine, You can do both. Get married away and then come home to a HomeComing party (like a reception).
25 Things about me
1. I hate my husband's cat, Flo. She bites.
2. I had my last child at home with just my husband and I. It was beautiful and amazing.
3. I am thinking about becoming a nurse and working the labor and delivery floor. I would like to continue my doula work. I support women who want to deliver without medication or with an epidural. I would like to offer much more in room support (suggest different positions, pain relief techniques, and pros and cons of interventions).
4. I alway seem to date or marry non-Americans.
5. I wish I could have another baby.
6. I love to cook gourmet meals (but often do not have the time).
7. I had a foster child when I was married to my first husband. I regret and grieve over giving her back to DSS. I should have kept her.
8. I wish my first husband and I had a child together. We were the best of friends, he would make a great dad, and it would keep him in my life. We stayed great friends until his current wife became jealous of our relationship and demanded that we quit calling each other and going out to dinner (my current husband did not care).
9. I wish I had given my first child two middle names since my other children have them.
10. I plan on vacationing in Thailand 2010.
11. My husband and I have discussed moving out of the country. We would like to expose them to other countries and cultures. We had been looking into it recently until the economy when spiraling down.
12. I do not know all the accounts my husband has or even the address of the house we own in England. If he dies I am going to be in a * load of trouble.
13. I want to die before my husband. I do not want to be without him. If he dies first, I will never remarry. Not to pine way for him but because I do not want to make sacrifices which reltionships often reqiure. I will have manogamy relationship but maintain my own home. The new guy should be able to build things with his hands!
14. I have tried astral projection (read about it in a book when I was a teenager). All that happens is I get dizzy. I will let you guys know if I ever make it out of my body. ;>
15. I can be controlling at times. Or so I hear. What do they know. I did not tell them that!
16. I can not wait until the day I can say "Go outside and play" and not have to go with them.
17. I lived out of the country for years at a time growing up (Italy and England). I think due to this I travle a lot out of the country and prefer third world countries. I have been to several caribbean islands, Bermuda, Brazil (twice), Sri Lanka (twice three weeks each time), the canary islands, Scotland, England, Alaska, Mexico, and Tahiti....
18. I never had a honeymoon. We went to England and Scotland for three weeks but it was to meet his family. THAT is NOT a honeymoon! Thankfully I do like them so it was not so bad.
19. My husband propsed to me after two weeks of knowing each other. We got married 4 weeks later. That is right. Only knew each other for 6 weeks. That was 6 years ago. We now have three kids and love each other dearly. My husband states that I have been pregnant most of the time or at least newly from birth most of our marriage.
20. I have a tatoo.
21. I may love my DS child a bit more than my other children. He is my last and I think he needs me more. I baby him much more than my first two kids. He smiles often in his sleep. I can not wait until he smiles at me!
22. I have lived in 15 different states and two countries.
23. I love to sing and would love to be a "made" singer. I am not that good though.
24. I can not play for hours with a barbie so I am so grateful I have two girls close in age.
25. When I was three I met a women who had a lot of scars (from surgery) and one leg shorter then the other. I asked her what planet she was from. Boy did I embarass my mom.

Brandi~
I was a social worker too. I got my BSW and then worked at DSS as a child abuse investigator for 14 yrs. I loved the job. Most people do not but I enjoyed making a difference, being a detective of sorts, and the mystery of the job.
Char~ How old was your daughter when she had the 2 yr old?

Lorraine~
My husband is from Scotland, Scone near Perth. His daughter lives near Eye so we often stay close to there when we visit (between Ipswich and Norwich). We go all over when we vacation in England. So do you currently live there? How is the DS community there?
Cheers, Kelly

I've always lived in England, Funny but my mum lives in Norfolk, not that far away from Eye. You will have to let us know when you are visiting again, it would be cool to meet up.

Finally back in here looks like. Have had some issues, but things are kinda smoothin out. I am enjoying this thread, so here goes: 1. I adopted my son Rhienne, 13 DS 2. I have never borne a child. 3. I regret #2, but I stand by my reasons. 4. My son's brother and his adoptive family live with me. We wanted them to grow up together. 5. I believe in God and I observe the seventh day Sabbath. 6. I have two sisters and one brother. I am number 2. 7. Rhienne is now almost as tall as I am (I am 5'4") and he is definitely stronger than I am. 8. I am on a path to weight loss finally. I need to be, as I am diabetic and hypertensive. 9. If my dad had been around more, I would definitely have been a daddy's girl. I still think of myself that way, and he has been dead for several years now. I really miss him. 10. Rhienne is a gift. One that I treasure. I will treasure him more when he gets out of his Sponge Bob phase!! 11. I want to get married at some point - I don't want to grow old alone. 12. My idea of a good time is to have a book by J D Robb available. I have read every "In Death" book that has been written. More than once. 13. I am African-American. 14. I am left-handed and I love it. 15. I'm not observing Easter, but Passover was a blast! 16. There is a two year old in my bed right now. I am not happy. When is he going to sleep in his own bed? 17. I have never had a job that I hated. 18. I have been told that I am smart. If that were REALLY true, I would have the answer to #16! 19. I have attachment issues. I think it's cause I don't expect people to find anything in me worth sticking around for - or that they'll find something that sends them running for the hills. That could be a problem for #11. 20. I am getting way too serious in this list. 21. I can fix #20 with #22. 22. Why didn't anybody tell me that hair in.....nether regions turns gray too? 23. I am struggling with maybe taking a child back that I sent home to his mother. 24. I don't get attached to things. If I lose it, oh well. So I have to force myself to be patient when my roomie (Rhienne's brother's adoptive mother) gets bent out shape cause something got lost....taken.............used up........broken. 25. Barney should be stricken from the vocabularies and from the memories of children all over the world. He should be banned from bookstores, libraries and Wal-Mart. I don't like Barney. Can ya tell???!!

hey babyc, that is awesome that you are a social worker! I have done investigations, but never been an actual investigator here. I like some aspects of it, but not a lot of it. I really like my job here now.

After all this time, I'm going to see if I can come up with 25 random things about me...
1. I love watching HGTV. Someday my house will look like one of those...not!
2. My favorite color is cobalt blue.
3. Since I have had to learn to cook gluten, casein, and egg-free I've become a better cook.
4. I've also upgraded all kitchen appliances and cookware because a better cook needs better tools! (My mom would never have believed this!)
5. I am the youngest in this generation of my family, however, I am the oldest in my husband's family of his generation.
6. I am 29 days older than my husband.
7. This is husband #2, as husband #1 dropped dead of a heart attack when I was 28 (before kids, too.)
8. I still have my collection of Breyer horses in the garage. One day I'll trust my kiddos not to break the legs.
9. I used to be my dad's fishing buddy. Yes, I cleaned the fish, too.
10. I'd rather spend a day hiking in the mountains, than walking on a beach.
11. Besides reading, I like to do needlework to relax.
12. If I don't keep my hands busy doing needlework, I'll fall asleep in front of the television.
13. Everyone in my family is married to a lefty. My mom, husband, and brother-in-law are all lefties. None of the grandkids are.
14. What's really weird is that both of my husbands are/were lefties. (This really freaked #2 out for awhile.)
15. Even though I grew up with dogs, I've learned to love cats. They're so independent.
16. I like cooking with my crockpot so much, I took it camping this summer. It plugs into the KOA cabins nicely, and even motel rooms!
17. I still enjoy coloring in coloring books with my girls. It's relaxing.
18. My car has a big dent, self inflicted, in the back bumper to remind me that I should never be in that big of a hurry.
19. My favorite season to decorate the outside of the house is rapidly becoming halloween. I find it challenging to make it more fun for little ones to come to the door, rather than scare them off.
20. I'm a greying, curly haired brunette who refuses to dye the grey. The grey gives me a great excuse when I get forgetful!
21. I have lived in different parts of California all of my life.
22. I have learned more about how to teach other children from my child with DS than any course I took in college.
23. I love gardening without gloves. Something about the feel of the soil.
24. Someday, I'd like to visit Australia. I am fascinated by the different landscapes.
25. I've toured Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan singing with a national choir after I graduated from high school. I'm not a soloist, but I'm a solid choral person.

Well, I have been reading this and thinking about doing it, but have been a little apprehensive because 25 random things seems like a lot for a boring person like me ..LOL 1- I tend to be self-deprecating ~more than I should be 2- I grew up as one of 6 kids to divorced parents, my 3 brothers lived with my dad, and my sisters and I with my mom 3- I was a little rebellious as a teenager, and subsequently spend 2 years in a foster home (court-ordered) 4- My ideal vacation involves a beach, a drink with an umbrella in it, and NO STRESS!! 5- I have had 4 "real" jobs in my life ~telemarketer- that lasted 3 days until I left in tears because people are soooo mean.. haha ~pharmacy tech ~Bank rep ~mom 6- I currently own my own business, and finally feel financially independent! 7- I lived with a man I despised for almost 10 years because I thought it was the right thing to do for my daughter. I now realize how wrong I was. My daughter remembers the time he smashed the windsheild out of my car when we were trying to leave. I now have full custody of my daughter, and she has no desire to visit him. Lessons learned.. 8- I found my soulmate at a bar... we went to the same high school and never met until we were 27 years old. I knew the night we met that he was the one I had been waiting for. 9- I lived in Japan for 3 years, and would absolutely move back in an instant if given the chance. 10- I have one tattoo 11- I love to garden, and I would much rather be outside in my yard than inside cleaning. 12- I was born with an extra earlobe, luckily it was removed as a baby and you can't even tell : ) 13- My mom ran over my hand with a push lawnmower when I was about 8, my brother was chasing me on his big orange bike and I fell and slid about 20 feet on the still damp grass, arm outstretched, right underneath the grass blower. Luckily the worst reminder of this incident is a 2 inch scar on my right index finger. I can still remember the look on my mom's face. 14- I took 2 years of Latin and 4 years of Spanish language classes, and am fluent in neither. 15- I love avocados, I eat one almost every day 16- I have been published in 2 books, the first was a book of poetry as a teenager, and the second was a bento cookbook last year 17- I don't have a 5 year plan. Or a 10 year plan. Or a 6 month plan. I am more of a 'wait and see what happens' type of person. 18- I am actually a shy person, and sometimes I don't even want to answer my phone if I don't know who it is. 19- I know how to knit, crochet and needlepoint. I also have an embroidery sewing machine and a regular sewing machine. I tend to lose interest easily. I have tons of unfinished projects. 20- My fingers are currently too swollen to wear my wedding rings : ( 21- I love to play Animal Crossing on the Wii. 22- I am a very good cook, but would much rather let me husband fix dinner- He has become an excellent cook in the last couple years! 23- I am an online poker player who can't wait to win my bracelet! I would absolutely become a professional player if given the opportunity. 24- I am currently 8 months pregnant and more than a little unprepared for this one! 25- My favorite color is green, and I don't really have a favorite food, but I eat yogurt every day. I love fruit desserts more than chocolate ones. And I don't drink milk.
