Just wondering ~ DO any of your kids take Yoga? Our YMCA is offering it and I was thinking maybe of having Chris try it. To late for this session as I just heard about and I am not even sure he would have any interest what so ever...
Anywho if anyone's child has tried or does this PLEASE share.
Thanks in advance.

LOL - Nope, but I'm thinking that Jason could probably teach the class. That kid is more flexible then I could ever dream of being (or my husband could dream of me being!! LOL).

Hi CC! I haven't posted here in awhile but had to sign on when I saw your post. Andrew has been doing Yoga with his PT for almost a year now. He absolutely loves it. Although he works with his PT 1-1 they will also go into the preschool classroom and do yoga with all the kids. From what I understand, when the whole class is doing yoga Andrew tries to help them and really enjoys going up to the front of the room to show them all how to do the pose. As for the benefits of yoga, I know, I know...most of our kids are already flexible enough....but the benefits of yoga are not just flexibility. It also strenghthens muscles and improves tone. It improves body awareness, teaches breathing relaxation to improve concentration and a wide range of other benefits as well. Ofcourse with some of our children who can bend and twist like nothing I've ever seen before, it is a huge ego booster because the moves and poses are so easy for our children to do, it makes them feel more confident in themselves. I say go for it! You can google the benefits of yoga with children with down syndrome and come up with a ton of info. I know when Andrew has had yoga in school because he comes home very relaxed and very easy going. Have fun!

When Sarah was a baby I bought the book "Yoga for the Special Child". It was written by a yoga teacher who had a daughter with DS. I have to admit I haven't worked with Sarah on it as much as I had planned, but I think it's a good thing to help teach muscular strength, especially since their ligaments are so lax.
