Well, Eric finally had his ear surgery on Thursday...almost didn't because he had a runny nose and cough. The anesthesiologist was kind of hesitant, but since his lungs were clear, and he is "chronic" snotty during the winter, he gave his ok. They didn't intubate him, just a mask anesthesia for about 20 minutes. They got a good look at both ears, checked for any problems, cleaned out all the gunk, and gave him a huge dose of antibiotic drops right down into the ear. The doc was happy he didn't find a "cholesteoma" (not sure of the spelling), which is kind of like a blister that forms near the eardrum that will fill up with junk that slowly leaks out into the ear canal. If left untreated, it could destroy the bones in the ear and cause some major problems. So we were glad to hear that! He did say the eardrums were very thin, probably from multiple infections. He wants to have his hearing tested after he's all healed and there isn't any drainage. Eric did very well with the procedure. The worst part for him was putting on the ID and ALLERY bracelets...hated it! Sensory thingy! So now we have very clean ears...hopefully they will stay that way!
