Do any of your kids have their own television in their bedroom? If so, do you put some limits to watching? I need some advice because Eric is a TV addict! He would love to have a TV in his room, and it would definetly free up our family room TV, but I don't want him alone in his room all day either. Any thoughts, or stories?

We don't have TV, but all of my kids have DVD players in their rooms, including Joshua. I am picky about the kind of DVDs I buy or rent, but I pretty much let them watch DVDs during any of their free time. (We homeschool, and I've never allowed DVDs between the hours of 8am and 3pm on weekdays, even if they finish with their school work.)
Joshie's a different matter. He has a DVD player with a big screen. I set it to "repeat" and he has Love and Learning OR Signing Time DVDs going all day long. In his particular case, I think it has helped his language skills. He's had that since he was a couple months old.

Sarah owns our tv. She knows that mommy or daddy get to control the tv at 7 pm which is when she starts going to bed. I allowed my older daughter to have a tv in her room when she got in high school and I still didn't feel it was the best decision. I usually just go on my laptop or read when Sarah is hogging the tv. Besides, how would I have ever learned to sign if I hadn't watched all those Signing Time dvds hundreds of times. ;D Chris ps.....we are watching a kidsongs dvd right now. Yes, that includes Sarah, dh and me.

Jason has always had a TV in his room. Back in the day when Brian and Jason's mother were still together it wasn't a good set up. While Brian was working, Jason was allowed to sit in his room with a bag of chips and pop, 'flipping' his clothes and watching TV. It was more of a babysitter than anything else.
He doesn't spend the amount of time in his room that he used to. We make sure to get all of the kids out of the house on the weekends. Also, we set up his PlayStation in another room otherwise he would be on that non-stop!! We give him about a 1/2 hour after school and about an hour after dinner with the PS and then he's done. He falls asleep to his TV. No cable either, he just watches DVDs.

We had a TV in John-John's room until it died. I never had it hooked to cable, just used it for videos. One could only watch Pooh,... for so long. If I had an extra TV I'd have one in there now. Pat

My daughters have a small dvd player in their playroom and I put it in their bedroom if one of them is sick. It is nice to have another tv in the house because the girls frequently don't want to watch the same thing, but I don't want either girl to have her "own" tv.

Nope... no TV in Russell's room because he would never sleep if we did LOL I am in our office which is also where Russell watches TV. We have a TV and DVD/VCR hooked up for him.. no cable. If he was in his room it would be too hard to monitor..... AND he'd be up all night watching it! We try to discourage electronic things in his room because of the fact he wakes up in the middle of the night.... A.

Oh, just more info . . . at bedtime, I take Joshua's DVD out and put on a CD of lullabyes. I think it's a good cue for him that it's time to wind down and sleep.
