Hi all,
We revised Dani's IEP last week. Dani has been stuttering recently. Thankfully the ST brought this up. She said she knew it was going to happen and was happy to see it happen. I guess Dani's brain is processing faster than her mouth can speak. Just checking to see if anyone else has had stuttering issues. Dani's ST says she is teaching Dani a motion to tap on her leg when she is speaking to remind herself to slow down. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Thanks, take care, Kim and Danikins.
If anyone wants to join me on Facebook just PM me. I would love to tag, hug or send drinks to whomever. Dawn--it is all your fault--but you are the best.

Wow Kim, that is interesting! I've never heard the part about the brain working faster than the mouth! Ryan stutters when he talks fast, or when he is excited. His SLP had him clap or tap too. It has worked for him.

Kim it's good to know Dani's ST is working on ways to help her with this! I haven't personally heard of this commonly in Ds. I hope you post back with how the ST's method is working. Jelani's ST should be fired for being incognito. What's worse is Jelani grinds his teeth so much that now he's incorporated it into his speech. I need to call an IEP too. Kim you're the dearest, and we'd love to have you and Dani fly over on that majic carpet anytime.

I used to stutter as a child too. I was shy.

My son began to stutter in middle school. I immediately told the teachers to suspend all homework and back away from making demands. The stuttering stopped. Since then, he has started stuttering a few times and I immediately dialed his schedule, workload and expectations of his behaviors back. For my guy, it is a message that he is under too much stress.

I know that when I start to sssstumble over my esses, I need to dial down on the stress load. Mine is more of a stall than a stutter, I suppose, and most people don't even realize when I'm doing it. Lucky me.
